ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
This chapter explains how to keep the machine operating smoothly, including viewing copy count, and cleaning the
machine.
CHECKING THE TOTAL OUTPUT
COUNT AND TONER REMAINING
To check the total number of pages output in copy, print, and fax modes hold down the
[COPY] key when the machine is in
the standby state. The counts will appear while the key is held down. The total output
count can be used as a guideline for cleaning. When the total output count exceed
"99,999,999", the counts return to "0".
The toner level is shown at the bottom of the screen.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
CLEANING THE DOCUMENT GLASS AND
DOCUMENT FEEDER
If the document glass, underside of the document feeder, or the scanner for originals coming from the document
feeder (the long narrow glass surface on the left side of the document glass) become dirty, the dirt may appear on
copies. Always keep these parts clean.
Stains or dirt on the document glass/document feeder will also be copied. Wipe the document glass, underside of
the document feeder and the scanning window on the document glass with a soft, clean cloth.
If necessary, dampen the cloth with water. Do not use thinner, benzene, or similar volatile cleaning agents.
You can also check by pressing the [SPECIAL FUNCTIONS] key and selecting "Total Count" in the function
menu screen.
Each two-sided sheet that is output is counted as two pages.
Blank copies and blank prints are included in the count.
If the last page of a two-sided printing job is blank, it is not included in the count.
Do not spray flammable cleaner gas. Gas from the spray may come in contact with the internal
electrical components or high-temperature parts of the fusing unit, creating a risk of fire or
electrical shock.
