MAKING A BEVELCUT
See Figure44.
This proceduremakes a cutwiththe blade and motor
angled and the arm straight(90"tofence). If there is
no kerf, followthe stepsto make one. Try this cuton
scrapwood beforecuttingyourworkpiece.
_i, WARNING: Make sure theblade guard is
lowered and isworkingproperlyto prevent
possibleinjury.Always raisethe clear plastic
guard beforechangingthe bevel or loweringthe
blade toavoid damage tothe guard.
,_ WARNING: Keep one handon the handle until
the bladestopsrotatingto preventthe risk of
injury.
Putthe fence in thefrontposition(nextto thefront
table) and tightenthetable clamps.
Check thatthecontrolcutdeviceisset for the
correctspeed for the typeofwoodand cutyou are
planning.Referto thechart onthe labeland adjust
the thumbwheelon the handleaccordingly.
Iftheyoke isnotin the crosscutpositionwiththe
bladeparalleltothe arm, release the yokelock
handleand positionthe yokecorrectly withtheyoke
pivotlatchonthe rightside ofthearm.
Ifthe arm istoo lowor toohigh,firstliftthe blade
guardifthe armistoo low,and tum theelevating
handwheelat thefront ofthe table.Set theblade to
justclearthe kerrortable.
Ifthe arm isangled,release thearm lock knobon
topof thearm, positionitstraightahead and lock
thearm lockknob.
Iftheblade isin frontofthe fence, loosenthe
carriage lockknobon the leftsideofthe arm.
Release theswitchtdggeronthe handleand letthe
carriage returnto the back.
To set the bladeangle,first raise the plasticlower
guard.Release the bevel locklever,and position
theblade withthe bevelindexlever.Refightenthe
bevel locklever.
Note: Fora 45"or 90" angle, thebevel indexlever will
seat automaticallyat the presetpositivestop
positions.Forany otherangle, usethe bevel
lock lever.
Ifthere isno kerr,cutone approximately1/16 in.
deep. Graspthe handleand turnthe saw on with
the switchonthe arm. Squeeze the switchtrigger
onthe handleand pullthe bladeforward acrossthe
tableto make the kert.
Release the switchtriggerand letthe carriage
returnto the back,Turn the saw offwiththeswitch
on thearm but holdthe handleuntilthe bladestops
rotating.Adjustthe heightwiththe elevating
handwheelsothe bladewillrotatefreely in thekerr.
Positionthe workpieceagainstthefence. Placethe
pawls and rivingknifetoclear theworkpieceorthe
fence, whicheverishigher,by at least 114inch,
Grasp the handlewith one hand, Withthe other
hand,turnthe saw on,then holdthe workpiece
downand againstthe fence. Keep yourhandwell
away from the blade.
Squeeze the switchtriggeron the handleand pull
the bladethroughtheworkplacebutonlyfar
enoughtocompletethe cut. Keep yourhand onthe
handle,even afterthe cuthas been madeand the
saw turnedoff, untilthe bladestops rotating.
Aftercompletingthe cut,move theworkpiecetothe
side and turnoffthesaw withthe switchon the
arm. Release the switchtriggeronthe handleand
letthe blademove backbehind thefence. Do not
release thehandle untilthe blade stopsrotating.
