MAKING A CROSS CUT
See Figure42.
Use this proceduretomake a cutwiththe blade
verticaland straightforward. Ifa ken`does notexistfor
the line ofthe cut (cutting path),follow the stepsto
make one. Eachcuttingpath requiresitsown ken`.
_, WARNING: Make sure the bladeguard is
loweredand isworkingproperlyto prevent
possibleinjury.Alwaysraisethe clear plastic
guard beforechangingthe bevel or loweringthe
bladeto avoiddamage to theguard.
,_ WARNING: Keep one handon the handle until

the bladestops rotatingto preventthe riskof
injury.
Putthe fence in thefront position(nexttothe front
table) and tightenthe tableclamps.
Check thatthe controlcutdeviceisset for the
correctspeed forthe typeofwoodand cutyou are
planning.Referto thecharton the labeland adjust
thethumbwheelon the handleaccordingly.
Iftheyoke isnot inthe crosscut positionwiththe
blade paralleltothe arm, release theyoke lock
handle (rightside,underyoke). Positiontheyoke
correctlywiththe yokepivotlatch.
Ifthe arm istoo lowortoo high,first liftthe blade
guard ifthearm istoo low,and turntheelevating
handwheelat thefront ofthe table.Set the bladeto
just clear theken`or table.
If the arm isangled, releasethe armlock knobon
top ofthearm, position itstraightahead and lock
the arm lockknob.
Ifthe bladeisangled,raisethe plasticlowerguard,
release the bevel locklever,and set thebevel
indicatortozero. Retightenthebevel locklever.
Ifthe bladeisin front ofthe fence, loosenthe
cardage lockknobon the leftside ofthe arm.
Release theswitchtriggerand letthecarriage
returnto theback.
Ifthere is no ken',cutone approximately1/16 in.
deep.Grasp the handleand turnthesaw on with
theswitchonthe arm. Squeeze the switchtrigger
onthe handle and pullthe bladeforward acrossthe
tableto make the kerr.
Release theswitchtdggerand letthecarriage
returntothe back.Turn the saw offwiththe switch
on thearm but holdthe handle untilthe bladestops
rotating.Adjustthe heightwiththe elevating
handwheelsothe bladewillrotatefreely in the ken'.
Positiontheworkpieceagainstthe fence. Placethe
pawls and rivingknifeto clearthe workpieceor the
fence, whicheverishigher,by at least 114inch.
Graspthe handlewithone hand. Withthe other,
turnthesaw on,then holdtheworkpiecedownand
againstthefence. Keep yourhandwellaway from
theblade.
Squeeze the switchtriggeron thehandle and pull
the bladethroughthe workpiecebutonlyfar
enoughto completethe cut.Keep yourhandon the
handle,even afterthecut hasbeen made and the
saw turnedoff, untilthe bladestops rotating.
II Aftercompleting thecut, movethe workpiecotothe
side and turnoffthe saw withthe switchon the
arm. Release the switchtriggeron the handleand
lettheyoke movebackbehindthe fence. Do not
releasethe handle untiltheblade stopsrotating.
