MAKING A MITER CUT
See Figure 43.
In a miter cut, the blade isverticaland the arm
angled. Ifa ked does not existforthe cuttingpath,
make one (instructionsbelow). Each cuttingpath
requiresitsown kerf.
WARNING: Make sure the bladeguard is
lowered and isworkingproperlyto prevent
possibleinjury.Always raisethe clear plastic
guard beforechangingthe bevel or loweringthe
blade toavoid damage tothe guard.
_1= WARNING: Keep one handon the handle until
the blade stops rotatingto preventthe riskof
injury.
Put thefence in thefrontposition(nextto thefront
table) and tightenthe tableclamps.
Check that thecontrolcutdevice issat for the
correct speed for the typeofwoodand cutyou ars
planning.Refer tothe charton the labeland adjust
the thumbwheelon thehandle accordingly.
Ifthe yoke isnot inthe crosscutpositionwith the
blade parallelto thearm, releasethe yoke lock
handle and position theyokecorrectlywiththe
yoke pivotlatchon the right sideofthe arm.
Ifthe arm istoo lowor too high,first lifttheblade
guardifthe arm istoo low,andturnthe elevating
handwheelat thefront ofthetable. Set the bladeto
just clearthe kerrortable.
To set the angle ofthe arm, release thearm lock
knobon top ofthe arm. Use themite_scale above
the column to position the arm tothe desiredangle,
and lockthe arm lockknob.
Ifthe blade isinfrontof thefence, loosenthe
carriagelockknobonthe leftside ofthearm and
letthe carriagemoveback.
Ifthere isno kerf,cutone approximately 1/16 in.
deep. Grasp the handleand turnthe saw on with
the switchon the arm. Squeeze theswitchtrigger
on the handleand pullthe bladeforward across the
table to make thekerf.
Release the switchtriggerand letthe carriage
returntothe back.Turn thesaw offwiththe switch
on thearm but holdthe handle untiltheblade stops
rotating.Adjustthe heightwiththeelevating
handwheelsothe bladewillrotatefreely inthe kerr.
Positiontheworkpieceagainstthefence. Placethe
pawls and rivingknifeto clear theworkplaceor the
fence, whicheverishigher,byat least1/4 inch.
Graspthe handlewith one hand.Withthe other,
turnthe saw on,then holdthe workpiecedownand
againstthe fence. Keep yourhandwellaway from
the blade.
Squeeze the switchtriggerand pulltheblade
through the workpiecebut onlyfar enoughto
completethe cut. Keep yourhandon thehandle,
even afterthe cuthas been madeand the saw
turned off,untilthebladestopsrotating.
After completingthe cut,movethe workpiecetothe
side and turnoffthesaw with theswitchon the
arm. Releasethe switchtriggerand let theyoke
move backbehindthefence. Do notrelease the
handleuntilthe bladestopsrotating.

Ifthe blade isangled,raisethe plasticlowerguard, SWITCH
releasethe bevellock lever,and set the bevel
indicatorto zero. Retightenthe bevellocklever. CARRIAGE
