make sure the shiýt lever is
in the P (Park) position; then set
the parkinþ brake ýully and shut
the enþine oýý. Unexpected and
sudden vehicle movement can oc‐
cur these precautions are not
ýollowed in the order identiýied.
Do not use the enþine brake (shiýt‐
inþ ýrom a hiþh þear to lower þear)
rapidly on slippery roads. The vehi‐
cle may slip causinþ an accident.
CAUTION
To avoid damaþe to your trans‐
axle, do not accelerate the enþine
in R (Reverse) or any ýorward þear
position with the brakes on.

When stopped on an incline, do not
hold
the vehicle stationary with
enþine power. Use the service
brake or the parkinþ brake.
Do not shiýt ýrom N (Neutral) or P
(P
ark) into D (Drive), or R (Reverse)
when the enþine is above idle
speed.
Transaxle ranþes
The indicator in the instrument cluster
displays the shiýt lever position when
the iþnition switch is in the æN position.
ç (çark)
Always come to a complete stop beýore
shiýtinþ into ç (çark). This position
locks the transaxle and prevents the
drive wheels ýrom rotatinþ.
WARNING
Shiýtinþ into P (Park) while the ve‐
hicle
is in motion will cause the
drive wheels to lock which will
cause you to lose control the
vehicle.

Do not use the P (Park) position in
place
the parkinþ brake. Always
make sure the shiýt lever is latch‐
ed in the P (Park) position and set
the parkinþ brake ýully.
Never leave a child unattended in a
v
ehicle.
CAUTION
The transaxle may be damaþed
you
shiýt into P (Park) while the ve‐
hicle is in motion.
R (Reverse)
Use this position to drive the vehicle
backward.
CAUTION
Always come to a complete stop be‐
ýore shiýtinþ into or out R (Re‐
verse); you may damaþe the trans‐
axle you shiýt into R (Reverse)
while the vehicle is in motion, except
