Engine oil
Checking the fill level and topping up
Test conditions
Park the vehicle on a horizontal surface.
The parked engine is warm.
Checking the level
Wait a few minutes for the engine oil to flow back
into the oil sump.
Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth.
Insert the dipstick as far as it will go and pull it out
again.
Read the oil level and push the dipstick back in
again.
The oil level must be within the marked range.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to the engine and the exhaust sys-
tem!
The oil level must not be outside the marked range.
If it is not possible to top up the engine oil or if the
oil level is above the marked range, do not continue
driving. Stop the engine and seek the help of a spe-
cialist garage.
Do not use any oil additives.
Depending on driving style and operating conditions,
the engine consumes some oil, up to 0.5 l/1000 km.
Consumption may be higher over the next 5000 km.
Refilling
Unscrew the cover of the engine oil filler opening.
Top up the oil to the correct specification in 0.5 li-
tre portions.
Check the oil level.
Screw on the cover of the engine oil filler opening.
Specification
Ask a specialist garage for the correct engine oil
specification for your vehicle.
If no oil of the correct specification is available, max.
0.5 l of oil with the following specifications may be
used until the next oil change.
Petrol engines: VW 504 00, VW 508 00,
ACEA C3, ACEA C5.
Diesel engines: VW 507 00, ACEA C3 or API CJ-4.
For vehicles without a particulate filter, VW 505 01
can be optionally used.
Changing
Have the oil changed by a specialist garage.
Troubleshooting
Engine oil pressure too low
or flashes
Check the engine oil level.
The oil level is OK, the warning light continues to
flash:
Stop the engine and seek the help of a specialist
garage.
Engine oil level too low
or
illuminates
Message regarding required engine oil top up
Check the engine oil level, top up with oil if re-
quired.
Engine oil level too high
or illuminates
Message regarding the need to reduce the
engine oil level
Check the engine oil level.
The oil level is too high:
Drive on, exercising appropriate caution.
Seek the help of a specialist garage.
Engine oil level sensor impaired
or
illuminates
