WARNING Risk of accident from losing a
wheel
Oiled, greased or damaged wheel bolt/wheel
nut threads or wheel hub/wheel mounting
bolt threads can cause the wheel bolts/
wheel nuts to come loose.
As a result, you could lose a wheel while driv
ing.
#
Never oil or grease the threads.
#
In the event of damage to the threads,
contact a qualified specialist workshop
immediately.
#
Have the damaged wheel bolts or dam
aged hub threads replaced.
#
Do not continue driving.
#
Observe the information on the choice of
tires (/ page 438).
For tires with a specified direction of rotation, an
arrow on the side wall of the tire indicates the
correct direction of rotation. Observe the direc
tion of rotation when installing.
#
Slide the wheel to be mounted onto the
alignment bolt and push it on.

WARNING Risk of injury from tightening
wheel bolts and nuts
If you tighten the wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when the vehicle is raised, the jack could tip.
#
Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when the vehicle is on the ground.
#
Be sure to observe the instructions and
safety notes on "Changing a wheel"
(/ page 438).
#
For safety reasons, only use wheel bolts
which have been approved by Mercedes-
Benz and for the wheel in question.

NOTE Damage to paintwork of the wheel
rim when screwing on the first wheel bolt
If the wheel has too much play when screw
ing in the first wheel bolt, the wheel rim paint
can be damaged.

Press the wheel firmly against the
wheel hub when screwing on the first
wheel bolt.
#
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
pattern in the order indicated until they are
finger-tight.
#
Unscrew the alignment bolt.
#
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is finger-
tight.
#
Lower the vehicle (/ page 446).
Lowering the vehicle after a wheel change

The new wheel has been installed
(/ page 445).
#
Place the ratchet onto the hexagon nut of the
jack so that the letters "AB" are visible.
#
To lower the vehicle: turn the ratchet of the
jack counter-clockwise.
