M16 Camera Manual: Product Overview
1.1.3 Advantages and New Features
The high-resolution M16 AllroundDual is the more powerful successor of the M15 and uses
image sensors with 6MP image size. Since the images of a M16 sensor with a maximum
size of 3072x2048 can be viewed live or in the recordings, the M16 is clearly superior to its
predecessor in terms of image quality and frame rate.
Conclusive Still Images
Thanks to the proprietary MxPEG video codec developed exclusively for MOBOTIX cameras,
the cameras oer the advantage that a recording can be paused at any given point and still
provide meaningful and useful snapshots due to the absence of distortion. This is essential
for security applications and allows individuals or license plates to be identied, for example.
In contrast, the H.264 standard, which was developed for feature movies and is favored
by some video security providers, cannot achieve this with the required level of quality.
Good Color Images Even in Low Light
The more light-sensitive an image sensor is, the better the image quality, especially when
the ambient light level is low, such as at dusk and in heavy rainfall. The M16 oers the best
MOBOTIX image quality that is currently available thanks to the light sensitivity provided
by the 6-megapixel color sensor.
Black&WhiteImagesWithupto6Megapixels
The M16 is a MOBOTIX camera with a 6-megapixel night sensor that can deliver black and
white images with up to 3072x2048 pixels. As opposed to the night sensor of an M12 with
1.3 megapixels, the image size is almost ve times higher.
World’srstThermalCamerawithOpticalSensorModule
The new thermal sensor modules measure the thermal radiation of objects, delivering
clear thermal images even in absolute darkness. Together with the MxActivitySensor, they
can reliably detect motion in images at night – where only changes in position will trigger
a signal. Objects moving on the spot do not trigger a signal. The thermal sensor modules
also have an advantage during the day, as they can detect moving objects in shadows,
semi-darkness, smoke or behind bushes. The optional optical sensor module records the
same scene with more details, allowing to identify persons, for example.
ThermalRadiometry–MeasuringTemperaturesandTriggeringAlarms
The
M16-Thermal-TR
(
TR = Thermal Radiometry
) can do even more than to record ther-
mal images and detect movements; this model variant can measure temperatures and
trigger alarms. This is the result of using a calibrated thermal sensor, which can measure
the temperatures in the entire image or in measurement windows.
