Water and dirt-repellent coating
The windows are treated with a surface coa-
ting that improves visibility in difficult weather
conditions.
Water and dirt-repellent coating*
There is natural wear of the water-
repellent coating.
Maintenance:
Never use products such as car wax,
degreaser or similar on glass surfaces as
this could ruin their water-repellent prop-
erties.
Take care when cleaning so as not to
damage the glass surface.
To avoid damaging glass surfaces when
removing ice – only use plastic ice scra-
pers.
Treatment with a special finishing agent
available from Volvo dealers is recom-
mended in order to maintain the water-
repellent properties. This should be used
first after three years and then each year.
IMPORTANT
Do not use a metal ice scraper to remove
ice from the windows. Use the heating to
remove ice from the door mirrors; see Win-
dows and rearview and door mirrors -
heating (p. 98).

Rustproofing
The car received a thorough and complete
rustproofing at the factory. Parts of the body
are made of galvanised sheet metal. The
underbody is protected by a wear-resistant
anti-corrosion compound. A thin, penetrating
rustproofing fluid was sprayed into the
exposed members, cavities, closed sections
and side doors.
Inspection and maintenance
Dirt and road salt can lead to corrosion so it
is important to keep the car clean. The car's
rustproofing needs to be checked regularly
and touched-up if necessary in order for it to
be maintained.
Under normal conditions the rustproofing
does not require treatment for approximately
12 years. After this period, it should be trea-
ted at three-year intervals. Volvo recom-
mends that you engage an authorised Volvo
workshop for assistance if the car needs fur-
ther treatment.
