Trouble-shooting Guide
It is not always necessary to call out a service engineer. In a lot of cases you should be able to resolve the pro-
blem yourself. The following table contains a number of useful tips on how to do so.
Fundamental information:
Work on the cooker electrics or the gas fittings should only be carried out by a suitably qualified person. Before any such
work is begun, the appliance must always be isolated from the mains electricity supply, for example, by switching it off at
the main fuse box for your accommodation.
If the built-in gas cooker has to be withdrawn from the cupboard unit, the qualified person undertaking the repair must first
undo all connections between the cooker and the gas hob. This includes the telescopic linkage connecting the burner con-
trol knobs as well as the electricity and gas connections between hob and oven.
What to do … Possible cause Remedy
… if there is an overall power failure. Blown fuse. Check fuse in main fuse box and
replace if defective.
… if liquids or thin doughs flow to
one side of the pan.
Cooker is not level. Align appliance or check installation.
… if a fault occurs with electronically
controlled functions.
Pulses of energy such as when light-
ning strikes.
Reset corresponding function.
… if the underside of cakes or pies
baked directly on a tray is too light.
Item inserted at wrong shelf height. Insert cakes at lower level.
… if the underside of cakes or pies
baked in a tin or dish is too light.
Cake tin or dish has been placed
inside oven on a baking sheet or grill
pan.
Place baking tin or dish on a wire
shelf inside oven.
… if the cake is too dry. Oven temperature is too low. Set oven to a slightly higher tempe-
rature.
… if the cake is still uncooked or
doughy inside or meat is not roasted
all the way through.
Oven temperature set too high. Set oven to a slightly lower tempe-
rature.
Note:
Cooking time cannot be shortened
by setting oven to a higher tempera-
ture! (Outside cooked, inside un-
cooked).
… if the underside of cakes or bis-
cuits is too dark.
Dark-coloured baking tray was used. Use light-coloured baking trays.
Cooking time was too long. Arrange for oven to be serviced.
Baking trays or grill pan that are not
currently being used have been sto-
red at bottom of oven.
Remove all baking sheets and grill
pans from oven if they are not requi-
red for use.
Cooking time too short. Select a longer cooking time, allow
dough to rise for longer period.
Too much liquid in the cake mixture. Use less liquid in cake mixture.
Item inserted at wrong shelf height. Place cakes or biscuits on a higher
shelf position inside oven.
