Raising and lowering windscreen wiper
arms
Place the windscreen wipers in the service
position
page 48.
Grip the wiper arms only by the blade's
fastening point.
Cleaning windscreen wiper blades
Raise the wiper arms.
Use a soft cloth to remove dust and dirt
from the windscreen wiper blades.
If the blades are very dirty, a sponge or
damp cloth may be used
.

Lift and unfold the wiper arms.

and pull gently on the wiper blade in the di-

ection of the arrow.
Fit a new wiper blade of the same length
and design on to the wiper arm and hook it
into place.
Rest the wiper arms back onto the wind-
screen.
Changing the rear wiper blade
Lift and fold the wiper arm.
Turn the blade slightly

type in the rear wiper arm in the opposite di-
rection to the arrow

Replace the wiper arm on the rear window.
WARNING
Worn or dirty windscreen wiper blades re-
duce visibilit
y and increase the risk of acci-
dent and serious injury.
Always replace damaged or worn wind-
screen wiper blades or blades that no lon-
ger clean the windscreen properly.
CAUTION
Damaged or dir
ty windscreen wipers
could scratch the glass.
If products containing solvents, rough
sponges or sharp objects are used to clean
the blades, the graphite layer will be dam-
aged.
Never use fuel, nail varnish remover, paint
thinner or similar products to clean the win-
dows.
In icy conditions, always check that the
wiper blades are not frozen to the glass be-
fore using the wipers. In cold weather, it
may help to leave the vehicle parked with
the wipers in service position
page 48.
CAUTION
T
o prevent damage to the bonnet and the
wiper arms, only leave them in the service
position.
Before driving, always lower the wiper
arms.
Jump start
Jump l
eads
The jump lead must have a sufficient wire
cr
oss section.
If the engine fails to start because of a dis-
charged battery, the battery can be connec-
ted to the battery of another vehicle to start
the engine.
Jump leads must comply with standard DIN
72553 (see cable manufacturer's instruc-
tions). The wire cross section must be at least
25 mm
2
for petrol engines and at least
35 mm
2
for diesel engines.
Note
The v
ehicles must not touch each other,
otherwise electricity could flow as soon as
the positive terminals are connected.
The discharged battery must be properly
connected to the on-board network.
