Parameters Assigned to the Knobs
PSR-I500 Owner’s Manual
58
Reference
Knob A: ATTACK
Adjusts the Attack Time (the amount of time it
takes the sound to reach maximum level when a
key is played). Turning the knob to the right
increases the Attack Time, thus slowing down the
attack rate.
Knob B: RELEASE
Adjusts the Release Time (the amount of time it
takes for the sound to decay to silence after a key
is released). Turning the knob to the right
increases the Release Time, thus making a longer
sustain.
The chart below lists some interesting ways to use the various effects that can be assigned to the knobs.
Some Ideas for Using the Knobs
These effects are applied only to KEYBOARD. The target
cannot be switched to BACKING.

RIYAZ BALANCE
Knob A adjusts the volume balance between the sounds of Tabla 1 (having the lower
sound) and Tabla 2 (having the higher sound of Tabla or Mridangam).
Knob B adjusts the volume balance between the sounds of the Tabla (assigned to the
[TABLA 1] and [TABLA 2] buttons) and Tanpura (assigned to the [TANPURA 1]–[TAN-
PURA 4] buttons). Play with these Knobs as the patterns loop, sing along if you wish,
and create your own performance.
x
RIYAZ TEMPO/RIYAZ
KEY
Knob A adjusts the tempo of Riyaz playback. Setting to the minimum left-most position
results in half the default tempo, while setting to the maximum right-most position results
in double the default tempo. The center position corresponds to the default tempo. Note
that the tempo cannot exceed the range (11–280), and that the tempo of the Tanpura pat-
terns will not change even if you rotate Knob A. Knob B raises or lowers the pitch of the
Riyaz sound in semitones. Regarding the Tabla, only the higher sound (assigned to the
[2] button) will be transposed. Rotating the knob leftward lowers the pitch while rotating
the knob rightward raises the pitch.
Use these knobs to set the desired tempo and key, sing along if you wish, and create
your own performance!
c
CUTOFF/RESONANCE
Select “183 Gemini” (a synth-lead type Voice) or “210 Noise. Select
c with [KNOB
ASSIGN] button, and then switch the target to KEYBOARD. Turning Knobs A or B while
playing gives you the dynamic filter-sweep effects of an analog synthesizer.
v
REVERB/CHORUS
Select the Voice “048 CP80.” Select
v with [KNOB ASSIGN] button, and then switch the
target to KEYBOARD. Turn Knobs A and B all the way down to hear the direct, unpro-
cessed sound of the Voice. As you turn Knob B toward the right, a Chorus effect with
modulation is gradually applied to the sound. Turning Knob A to the right adds a Reverb
effect that makes you sound like you are playing in a concert hall.
b
DSP
Select the Voice, “059 Cool!Org.” Select
b with [KNOB ASSIGN] button, and then switch
the target to KEYBOARD. Press the [DSP] button to turn the DSP on, then set the DSP
type (Function 042) to “01 RotarySp.” Use Knob A to change the rotating speed of the
rotary speaker while playing the keyboard. When you move it slowly, you can create grad-
ual speed changes like on a real rotary speaker. Use Knob B to control the distortion.
n
ATTACK/RELEASE
Select the Voice “213 RSAnPad.” Turning Knob A all the way down makes the attack
faster, and lets you hear the crisp, clear sound of the original Voice. Turning Knob B all
the way down shortens the amount of time for the sound to decay to silence after a key is
released. These knobs let you finely adjust the Voice to create the appropriate sound for
the particular song youre playing.
The pitch of Tabla 2 may not be changed depending on the Riyaz pattern.
