> Ifflameshouldgoout duringa cooking
operation, turn the burner off. If a
strong gas odor is detected, open a
window and wait five minutes before
relightingthe burner.
> Be sure all surface controlsare set in
the OFFpositionpriorto supplyinggas
to the range.
> NEVER touch cooktop until it has
cooled. Expect some parts of the
cooktop, especially around the burn-
ers, to become warm or hot during
cooking. Use potholders to protect
hands.
PILOTLESSIGNITION
Pilotless ignition eliminatesthe need for a
constantstanding pilot light. Each surface
burner has a spark ignitor. Use care when
cleaning around the surface burner. If
cleaning cloth should catch the ignitor, it
could bedamaged,preventingignition.
If the surfaceburnerdoes not light,check if
ignitor is broken,soiled or wet. If clogged,
clean the small port beneath the ignitor
usingstraight pin.

Use to turn on
the surfaceburn-
ers. An infinite
choice of heat
settings is avail-
able from LOW
to HIGH. At the
HIGH setting a
detentor notch may be felt. The knobs can
be set on or betweenany of the settings.

trois. For example,the graphic
at right shows the right front
burnerlocation.
SETTINGTHECONTROLS:
1. Placea pan on the burner grate.
>The burner flame may lift off or ap-
pear separatedfrom the port if a pan
is not placedon the grate.
2. Pushinandturn the knobcounterclock-
wise to the LIGHTsetting.
> A clicking (spark)soundwill beheard
andthe burnerwill light. (Allfour igni-
torswill sparkwhenanysurfaceburn-
er knob is turned to the LIGHT posi-
tion.)
3. After the burner lights, turn knob to
desiredflame size.
The ignitorwill continueto sparkuntil
the knob is turnedpastthe LIGHTpo-
sition.

face burner head.
2 Pushin andturn the controlknobslowly
to LIGHT.
3 Adjustthe flameto the desired level.
> Whenlightingthe surfaceburners, be
sure a!l of the controlsare inthe OFF
position, Strike the match first and
hold it in position before turning the
knob to LIGHT,
SUGGESTEDHEATSETTINGS
Thesizeandtypeof cookwarewillaffectthe
heat setting. For informationon cookware
andotherfactorsaffectingheat settings,re-
fer to "Cooking Made Simple"booklet.
Setting Uses
HIGH Use HIGH to bring liquid
o_ to a boil, or reach pres-
__ sure in a pressurecooker.
Alwaysreducesettingto a
lower heat when liquids
begin to boil or foods
beginto cook.
LOW
An intermediate flame
size is used to continue
cooking. Food will not
cook any faster when a
higher flame setting is
used than needed to
maintain a gentle boil.
Water boils at the same
temperaturewhetherboil-
ing gently or vigorously.
Use LOW to simmer
foods,keep foods warm
and melt chocolateor but-
ter. Some cooking may
take place on the LOW
setting if the pan is cov-
ered. It is possible to
reduce the heat by rotat-
ing he knob toward OFF.
Besure flameis stable.
