Driving systems
The XC90 T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid is a
parallel hybrid, which means that it has two sep-
arate drive systems: an electric motor and a gas-
oline engine. Depending on the drive mode
selected and the amount of electric power avail-
able in the hybrid battery, the two systems can
be used in tandem or separately.

A control system coordinates both of the drive
systems to help optimize driving economy.

Electric motor
The gasoline engine and electric motor both gen-
erate power directly to the wheels. The gasoline
engine can also charge the hybrid battery using a
special high-voltage generator.

Hybrid battery charging cable
The charging cable is used to recharge your
vehicle's hybrid battery. Only use the cable provi-
ded with your vehicle or one purchased from a
Volvo retailer.
The charging cable is stowed in a storage compartment
under the cargo area floor
