Generaltroubleshooting
Before calling a service technician, please check this
chapter for a possible cause of the problem and some
solutions you can try.
Black box on-screen
The closed caption feature is set to one of the Text modes
(T1, T2, T3, or T4). Set the closed caption feature to Off
(_ page50).
TV stops responding to controls
If the TV stops responding to the controls on the remote
control or TV control panel and you cannot turn off the TV,
pressand hold the POWERbutton on the TV control panelfor
5 or more seconds to reset the TV.
Other problems
If your TV's problem is not addressedin this Troubleshooting
section or the recommended solution has not worked, use
the Restore FactoryDefaults procedure (_ page 40).
TV will not turn on
Makesure the power cord is plugged in, andthen pressPOWER_,,_.
The remote control batteries may be dead. Replacethe
batteries or try the control panelbuttons.
Picture problems
General picture problems
Checkthe antenna/cableconnections (_ Chapter 2).
Press_ on the remote control or the TV and select a valid
video input source (_ page41). If no deviceis connectedto
a particular input on the TV, no picture will display when you
select that particular input source. For device connection
details, see Chapter2.
Antenna reception may be poor. Use a highly directional
outdoor antenna (if applicable).
The station may havebroadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
Adjust the picture qualities (_ page49).
If you are using a VCR,makesure q_" on the remote control
is set correctly (_< page 22).
Do not connect both a standardvideo cable and an S-video
cable to the VIDEO1 input at the same time (_._ page 13).
Video Input Selection problems
If the Input Selectionwindow does not appear when you
press _ on the remote control or the TV control panel,
press_) a second time, which will changeto the next video
input source and display the Inpul Selection window.
Cannot view external signals or channel 3 or 4
If you cannotview signals from external devicesconnectedto
VIDEO1, VIDEO2, ColorStream®,HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3,
HDMI 4, PCor from channels 3 or 4, make sure the Input
Lock is set to Off(_ page 56).
Poor color or no color
The station may havebroadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
Adjust the Tint and/or Color(_, page49).
Poor composite or S-video picture
If the TV is connected to an external A!V device(e.g. DVD
player, video game system, set-top box, etc.) try using a
ColorStream® or HDMIvideo connection instead.
If you connect an S-video cable, be sure to disconnect the
standard (composite) video cable. Do not connect both types
of video cable at the same time.
Picture and sound are out of sync
As with all products that contain a digital display, in rare
instances, when viewing certain content (e.g. television
broadcasts,video games, DVDs), you may notice that the
sound and picture areslightly out of sync. This phenomenon
can becaused by various factors including, without
limitation, video processing within the TV, video processing
in an attached gaming system, and video processing or
different compression rates used by broadcasters in their
programming. You may want to try one or more of the
following suggestions, which mayhelp to reducethe effect of
this phenomenon:
- If the TV is connected to an A/V receiver that has a
programmableaudio delay feature, usethis feature to help
synchronize the sound to the picture.
- Ifyou notice this phenomenononly oncertain TVchannels,
pleasecontact your local broadcast, cable, or satellite
provider to inform them of this issue.
Sound problems
Checkthe antenna/cableconnections (_ Chapter 2).
The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
The sound may be muted. PressVOLUME.
If you hear no sound, try setting the MTSfeature to
Stereo mode (_._ page52).
If you are not receiving a second audio program from a
known SAPsource, makesure the MTS feature is set to SAP
mode (_ page52).
If you hear audio that seems "incorrect" for the program you
are watching (such as music or a foreign language),the SAP
mode maybe on. Set the MTS feature to Stereo mode
(_ page52).
If you connect a PC using either the PC IN terminal or an
HDMI terminal, makesure that the PCAudio setting is
properly set (_ page57).
Remote control problems
Makesure the remote control is set to the correct device
mode (_4¢page22).
Removeall obstructions betweenthe remote control and the
TV.
The remote control batteries may be dead. Replacethe
batteries (_- page20).
Your TV remote control may not operate certain features on
your externaldevice. Referto the owner's manual for your
other deviceto determine its availablefeatures. If your TV
remotecontrol does not operatea specific featureon another
device, use the remote control that came with the device
(_ pages26-33).
If the TV still does not act as expected,use the ResetFactory
Defaultsprocedure (_ page40).
Channel tuning problems
Makesure the remote control is set to the correct device
mode (_ page22).
The channel may havebeenerasedfrom the channel memory
by the AutoTuning feature. Add the channel to the channel
memory (_ page37).
The channel may be blockedby the Lock feature. Unblock the
channel (_- page55).
