If the speed difference is 4-15 km/h in relation
to the vehicle in front then City Safety can
completely avoid a collision.
City Safety activates a short, sharp braking
procedure and stops the car in normal cir-
cumstances, just behind the vehicle in front.
For most drivers this is well outside normal
driving style and may be experienced as
being uncomfortable.
If the difference in speed between the vehi-
cles is greater than 15 km/h then City Safety
may not avoid the collision on its own - to
obtain full brake force, the driver must
depress the brake pedal and this could then
make it possible to avoid a collision, even at
speed differences above 15 km/h.
When the function is activated and brakes,
the combined instrument panel shows a text
message to the effect that the function is/has
been active.
NOTE
When City Safety™ brakes, the brake
lights come on.

City Safety™ - operation
City Safety™ is a function for helping the
driver to avoid a collision when driving in
queues, amongst other things, when changes
in the traffic ahead, combined with a lapse in
attention, could lead to an incident.
On and Off
NOTE
The City Safety™ function is activated
automatically when the engine is started.
In certain situations, it may advisable to disa-
ble City Safety™, e.g. where leafy branches
could sweep over the bonnet and/or wind-
screen.
City Safety™ handled in the menu system
MY CAR (p. 114) and after starting the engine
the function can be deactivated as follows:
Search in MY CAR for
Driver support
system and select the Off option at City
Safety.
However, the function will be enabled the
next time the engine is started, regardless
of whether the system was enabled or
disabled when the engine was switched
off.
