Neurological
pedal set
The neurological pedal set from Philips can be installed on
a Philips bike (upright – 7.0 U or recumbent – 7.0 R) or almost
any other standard stationary bike with a 9/16” threaded
crank.
Once installed, the neurological pedal set enables
patients with neurological dysfunctions to exercise in a
closed-kinetic chain environment. The user’s foot is
secured with the velcro straps (shown below) to the pedal
in both the heel cup and toe areas.
The pedal set (both left and right side) accommodates and
allows patients with hemiparesis, patients with cerebral
palsy, and people with other neurological disorders to
exercise as their foot/feet is secured to the pedal. Motor
learning, range of motion, strength exercise, and skill build-
ing are the result of hours of practice opportunities with
this pedal set.

assembly and
instructions
Important information: the neurological pedals have left
and right threads and have an L or R clearly marked on
the end of the threaded shaft for easy identication. The
pedal for the right side of the bike will turn clockwise to
tighten. The pedal threads on the left side of the bike
will turn counter-clockwise to tighten.
To install the neurological pedals onto your bike, rst
remove the existing pedals from the crank arms (not
shown).
Thread the pedal into the crank arm (thread size is 9/16”).
A left pedal is shown and it is threaded counterclockwise,
a right pedal would be threaded clockwise.
• Use the supplied 14/15mm wrench to tighten the pedal
securely to the crank arm.

When the assembly is completed pedal the bike to test
the new neurological pedals. If you feel slight hesitation
at points in the rotation or a clicking noise check that
the crank nut and pedals are very tight.
Important notice
Check before each use to see that the cranks and pedals
are securely fastened – if not re-tighten the bolts.
