Philips HD6103/70 Questions and Answers

#1 What does the PreClean function do?

The PreClean function offers you the possibility to soak the inner bowl with hot water to allow easier cleaning. Fill the inner bowl with cold water up to three quarters of its capacity and add some washing-up liquid.

For the HD6103-05-07, Set the temperature control to the PreClean function. The water will be heated to 80 degrees Celsius. When 20- 30 minutes have passed, switch the fryer off, pour the water out of the inner bowl and clean it with hot water and some washing-up liquid.

For the HD6180, press the PreClean button for at least 2 seconds. The water will be heated to 80 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes to soak the inner bowl. When 30 minutes have passed, you will hear an audible signal to indicate that the heating element has been turned off. You can now lift the inner bowl out of the fryer, empty it and clean it with hot water and some washing-up liquid.

#2 Oil or fat spills over the edge of the fryer during frying. What should I do?

Make sure that there is not too much oil or fat in the fryer. Fill the fryer with oil, liquid frying fat or melted solid fat to a level between the 'MIN' and'MAX' indications. Make sure the food to be fried is dry and that there is not too much food in the basket (check the table in the instructions for use for the appropriate quantities).

#3 The oil or fat foams strongly during frying. What should I do?

Make sure the food is dry before you start frying it. If not: carefully shake off as much ice and water as possible and dab the food to be fried until it is properly dry. Do not mix different kinds of oil or fat. Make sure the inner bowl is clean. If not, it should be cleaned properly as described in the instructions for use.

#4 Why does the fryer give off a strong and unpleasant smell?

Perhaps the oil or fat isn't fresh. Make sure you change the oil or fat regularly. Sieve the oil or liquid fat from time to time to keep it fresh longer. Make sure that the type of oil or fat you are using is suitable for deep frying. Use frying oil or liquid frying fat of good quality. Never mix two different types of oil or fat. Also check if the permanent anti-grease filter is perhaps saturated.

To clean the filter, remove the lid (except HD 4282) and clean the lid and filter in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher.

For HD 4282/ HD4283 please check if the carbon filter is saturated. If it is, replace it.
