NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst, followedby the POSI-
TIVE(Red)wire.When re-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe
POSITIVE(Red) wireto itsterminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthat the wiresareconnectedto the correct
terminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe polarityandresult in
damageto yourengine'salternatingsystem.
Cleaning Battery
Cleanthe batteryby removingitfrom thetractorandwashingwith
a bakingsodaand watersolution,ifnecessary,scrapethe battery
terminalswitha wirebrushto removedeposits.Coatterminalsand
exposedwiringwithgreaseor petroleumjelly to preventcorrosion.
Battery Failures

Corrodedconnections
Thesefailuresare NOTcoveredbyyourtractor'swarranty.
JUMP STARTING
Neverjump starta damagedor frozenbattery.Be certain thevehicles
do nottouch,and ignitionsareoff. Do not allowcableclampsto
touch.
1. Connectpositive(+)cableto positivepost(+)of yourtractor's
dischargedbattery.
2. Connectthe otherend of the cableto thepositive(+)post of the
jumperbattery.
3. Connectthe secondcable negative(-) to the negativepost (-) of
thejumper battery.
4. Connectthe otherend of the negativecableto the engineblockof
the tractor,awayfromthe battery.Attachto anunpaintedpartto
assurea goodconnection.
Ifthejumperbatteryis installedon a vehicle (i.e.car, truck),do NOT
start the vehicle'senginewhenjump startingyourtractor.
5. Startthe tractor(as instructedin theOperationsectionof this
manual).
6. Setthe tractor'sparkingbrakebeforeremovingthejumpercables,
inreverseorderof connection.

Ifyourtractorhas notbeen put intouse foran extendedperiodof time,
chargethe batteryas follows:
1. Set yourbatterychargerto delivera maxof 10amperes.
Ifyourbatterychargeris automatic,chargethebatteryuntilthe
chargerindicatesthat chargingis complete.If thechargeris not
automatic,chargefor no fewerthan eighthours.
FUSE
One15AMPfuseisinstalledinyourtractor'swiringharnesstoprotectthe
tractor'selectricalsystemfromdamagecausedbyexcessiveamperage.
Ifthe electricalsystemdoes notfunction,oryour tractor'senginewill
not crank;first checkto becertainthat thefuse has not blown.It can
be foundunderthe fenderon the leftside of the unit, on the wiring
harnessjust abovethe battery.
Alwaysusea fusewith the sameamperagecapacityfor replacement.
LUBRICATION
Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO
(BladeEngageLever),move shiftleverinto neutralposition,set
parkingbrake,stopengineand removekeyto preventunintended
starting.
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricateall the pivotpointsonthe drivesystem,parkingbrakeandlift
linkageat leastoncea seasonwith lightoil.
Rear Wheels
The rear wheelsshouldberemovedfromthe axlesonce aseason.
Lubricatethe axlesandthe rims wellwithan all-purposegreasebefore
re-installingthem.
Front Axles
Eachendofthetractor'sfrontpivotbarmaybeequippedwitha grease
fitting.Lubricatewitha greasegunafterevery25hoursof tractoroperation.
Steering Rack & Pinion
Once per season,or every 25 hoursof operation,it will benecessary
to lubricatethe steeringrackand piniongearlocatedunderthe frontof
the unit. Usingstandardautomotivegrease,applygreaseto thefront
side and rear sideof the steeringrack,as indicatedin Fig.41.
