TRACTOR STORAGE
If yourtractoris notgoingto be operatedfor an extendedperiodof
time(thirtydaysto approximatelysix months),the tractorshouldbe
preparedfor storage.Storethetractorin a dry andprotectedlocation.
If storedoutside,coverthe tractor(includingthe tires)to protectit from
the elements.Theproceduresoutlinedbelowshouldbeperformed
wheneverthetractoris placedin storage.
1. Changethe engineoil and filterfollowingthe instructionsprovided
in theServiceand Maintenancesectionof this manual..
Neverstorethe tractorwithfuel inthe tankindoorsor in poorly
ventilatedenclosures,wherefuelfumesmayreachan openflame,
sparkor pilotlight as ona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,etc.
.
Neverstoregardentractorwithfuel in tank indoorsor in poorly
ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmayreachan openflame,spark,
or pilot lightas ona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
5. Sharpenthe bladesso that the mowerwill be readyto use when
needed.
If storingthetractorfor 30days or more:
a. Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine's
carburetorandcausingpossiblemalfunctionof the engine,the
fuelsystemmustbeeithercompletelyemptied,orthe gasoline
mustbetreatedwitha stabilizerto preventdeterioration.

b. Usingafuel stabilizer:
Readthe productmanufacturer'sinstructionsand recom-
mendations.
Addto clean,fresh gasolinethe correctamountof
stabilizerforthe capacity(approximately3 gallons)of the
fuel system.
Fillthe fuel tankwith treatedfueland runthe engine for
2-3minutesto get stabilizedfuel intothe carburetor.
c. Emptyingthefuel system:
Priorto puttingthe tractorinstorage,monitorfuel
consumptionwiththe goalof runningthefuel tankempty.
Startthe engineand allowit to runout of fuel. This will
preventgum andvarnishdepositsfromforming.
3. Removethespark plugsand pour approximatelyoneounceof oil
intoeachcylinder.Crankthe engineoneor two turns to spread
the oilevenlyonthe cylinderwalls.Replacethe sparkplugs.
4. Cleantheengineand theentiretractorthoroughly.
NOTE: Useof a pressurewasheror gardenhoseis not recommended
to cleanyourtractor.Theymaycausedamageto electricalcompo-
nents,spindles,pulleys,bearingsorthe engine.The useof waterwill
resultin shortenedlife andreduceserviceability.
6. Protectthe metalsurfaces.Repairscratcheswith the appropriate
touch-upspraypaint.Brusha rust preventiveoil on any unpainted
surfacesincludingthe pulleysandblades.(Becarefulnot to get
any oilon thedrive belts.)
7. Cleanand fully chargethe battery,thendisconnectthe negative
cableat thebatteryto preventpossibledischarge.Rechargethe
batteryperiodicallywhenin storage.
NOTE:Removethebatteryif exposedto prolongedperiodsof sub-
freezingtemperatures.Storeina cool, dry locationwheretemperatures
areabovefreezing.
8. Lubricateall lubricationpoints.
9. Jack the mowerup andstoreit onblocksto takethe weightoff of
the tires.
REMOVING THE TRACTOR FROM STORAGE
1. Checkthe engineoil.
2. Fullychargethe battery,lowertractoroff blocks,and inflatethe
tiresto the recommendedpressure.
3. Removethe sparkplugsand wipe themoff. Usingthe starter,
crankthe engineto pumpthe excessoil out of the sparkplug
holes.Replacethe sparkplugsandthe ignitionleads.
4. If drainedbeforestoring,fill the fueltank with clean,fresh
gasoline.
5. Checkthe levelof the engineoil in the crankcaseand the
hydraulicreservoirtank.
6. Startthe engineand allowto idlefor a few minutesto ensure
engineis operatingproperly.
7. Drivethe tractorwithouta loadto makecertainall thetractor
systemsarefunctioningproperly.
