The direct-wire bypass is a capacitive device for use with no-neutral
dimmers (52252/52253) as well as Jasco smart dimmers and switches
requiring a neutral wire. When used with extremely low-wattage LED
or CFL bulbs it helps prevent flickering by providing a minimum load on
the dimmer.
Depending on your wiring, the bypass can be installed in a variety of
ways. In a two-wire system – line and load – it installs directly behind
the light fixture. For other wiring configurations, the bypass is compact
enough to fit behind smart controls in crowded switch boxes.
Installation – no-neutral dimmer (52252/52253) neutral wire
unavailable in switch box
When only load, line and ground wires – two-wire system – are present in
the switch box and the connected light flickers
1. Turn off power at circuit breaker or fuse box and ensure power is off
at switch box before installation.
2. Remove light fixture from electrical box.
3. Remove the wire nut connecting the fixture hot (black) wire to the line
(black) wire in the junction box.
4. Add one wire of the bypass to these wires and secure using wire nut.
Tug on each wire and ensure there is a good connection.
5. Repeat this process for the neutral (white) wire. Tug on each wire and
ensure there is a good connection.
6. Install the light fixture
7. Turn on the power at the circuit breaker or fuse.
Installation – no-neutral dimmer (52252/52253) neutral wire available
Applies specifically to installation with no-neutral dimmers when load,
line, neutral and ground wires – three-wire system – are present in the
switch box
1. Turn off power at circuit breaker or fuse box and ensure power is off
at switch box before installation.
2. Remove wallplate and smart control from switch box.
3. Connect one lead of the bypass to the neutral wire using a wire nut.
The neutral is often white wire or bundle of wires in the back of the
switch box bound by a wire nut.
4. Connect the other lead of the bypass and the load wire to the
LOAD terminal.
5. Install the smart control ensuring wires are not pinched or crushed.
6. Install wallplate.
7. Turn on power at circuit breaker or fuse box.
Installation – smart dimmer or switch requiring a neutral wire
Helps prevent flicker when dimming or if LED/CFLs glow when dimmer or
switch is turned off
1. Turn off power at circuit breaker or fuse box and ensure power is off
at switch box before installation.
2. Remove wallplate and smart control from switch box.
3. Connect one lead of the bypass and the neutral wire to the
NEUTRAL terminal.
4. Connect the other lead of the bypass and the load wire to the
LOAD terminal.
5. Install the smart control ensuring wires are not pinched or crushed.
6. Install wallplate.
7. Turn on power at circuit breaker or fuse box.
