including safety warnings, and any assembly
and operating instructions. Keep the manual

Safety precautions and recommendations
detailed here must be fully understood and
followed to reduce the risk of injury, fire,
explosion, electrical hazard, and/or property
damage.
Safety information presented here is generic
in nature – some advice may not be
applicable to every product. The term
"equipment" refers to the product, be it
electrical mains powered, battery powered or
combustion engine powered.
• Before Use - If you are not familiar with the
safe operation/handling of the equipment or
are in any way unsure of any aspect of
suitability or correct use for your
application, you should complete training
conducted by a person or organization
qualified in safe use and operation of this
equipment, including fuel/electrical handling
and safety.
• Do NOT operate the equipment in
flammable or explosive environments, such
as in the presence of flammable liquids,
gases, or dust. The equipment may create
sparks or heat that may ignite flammable
substances.
• Keep clear of moving parts.
• Equipment may be a potential source of
electric shock or injury if misused.
• Do NOT operate the equipment if it is
damaged, malfunctioning or is in an
excessively worn state.
• Do NOT allow others to use the equipment
unless they have read this manual and are
adequately trained.
• Keep packaging away from children - risk
of suffocation! Operators must use the
equipment correctly. When using the
equipment, consider conditions and pay
due care to persons and property.
General Work Area Safety
•
Work areas should be clean and well it.
• Do not operate the equipment if
bystanders, animals etc are within
operating range of the equipment or the
general work area.
• If devices are provided for connecting dust
extraction / collection facilities, ensure
these are connected and used properly.
Dust collection can reduce dust-related
hazards.
General Personal Safety
•
Wear appropriate protective equipment
when operating, servicing, or when in the
operating area of the equipment to help
protect from eye and ear injury, poisoning,
burns, cutting and crush injuries. Protective
equipment such as safety goggles,
respirators, non-slip safety footwear, hard
hat, hearing protection etc should be used
for appropriate equipment / conditions.
Other people nearby should also wear
appropriate personal protective equipment.
Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery,
which can be caught in moving parts. Keep
hair and clothing away from the equipment.
• Stay alert and use common sense when
operating the equipment. Do not over-
reach. Always maintain secure footing and
balance.
• Do not use the equipment if tired or under
the influence of drugs, alcohol, or
medication.
• This equipment is not intended for use by
persons with reduced physical, sensory, or
mental capabilities.
General Fuel Safety
•
Petrol/fuel/gasoline is extremely flammable
– keep clear of naked flames or other
ignition sources.
• Do not spill fuel. If you spill fuel, wipe it off
the equipment immediately – if fuel gets on
your clothing, change clothing.
• Do NOT smoke near fuel or when
refuelling.
• Always shut off the engine before
refuelling.
• Do NOT refuel a hot engine.
• Open the fuel cap carefully to allow any
pressure build-up in the tank to release
slowly.
• Always refuel in well-ventilated areas.
• Always check for fuel leakage. If fuel
leakage is found, do not start, or run the
engine until all leaks are fixed.
General Carbon-Monoxide Safety
•
Using a combustion engine indoors CAN
KILL IN MINUTES. Engine exhaust
contains carbon-monoxide – a poison you
cannot smell or see.
• Use combustion engines OUTSIDE only,
and far away from windows, doors, and
vents.
General Equipment Use and Care
•
The equipment is designed for domestic
use only.
• Handle the equipment safely and carefully.
• Before use, inspect the equipment for
misalignment or binding of moving parts,
loose components, damage, or any other
condition that may affect its operation. If
damaged, have the equipment repaired by
an authorised service centre or technician
before use.
• Prevent unintentional starting of the
equipment - ensure equipment and power
switches are in the OFF position before
connecting or moving equipment. Do not
carry equipment with hands or fingers
touching any controls. Remove any tools or
other items that are not a part of the
equipment from it before starting or
switching on.
• Do not force the equipment. Use the
correct equipment for your application.
Equipment will perform better and be safer
when used within its design and usage
parameters.
• Use the equipment and accessories etc. in
accordance with these instructions,
considering working conditions and the
work to be performed. Using the equipment
for operations different from those intended
could result in hazardous situations.
• Always keep equipment components
(engines, hoses, handles, controls, frames,
housings, guards etc) and accessories
(cutting tools, nozzles, bits etc) properly
maintained. Keep the equipment clean and,
where applicable, properly lubricated.
• Store the equipment out of reach of
children or untrained persons. To avoid
burns or fire hazards, let the equipment
cool completely before transporting or
storing. Never place or store the equipment
near flammable materials, combustible
gases, or liquids etc.
• The equipment is not weather-proof, and
should not be stored in direct sunlight, at
high ambient temperatures or locations that
are damp or humid.
• Do not clean equipment with solvents,
flammable liquids, or harsh abrasives.

General Electrical Safety
•
Inspect electrical equipment, extension
cords, power bars, and electrical fittings for
damage or wear before each use. Repair or
replace damaged equipment immediately.
• Ensure all power sources conform to
equipment voltage requirements and are
disconnected before connecting or
disconnecting equipment.
• When wiring electrically powered
equipment, follow all electrical and safety
codes.
• Always use a Residual Current Device
(RCD) (GFCI) / Earth Leakage Circuit
Breaker / Safety Switch when operating this
item (electrical items only).
• High voltage / high current power lines may
be present. Use extreme caution to avoid
contact or interference with power lines.
Electrical shock can be fatal.
General Electrical Safety
•
Electrically grounded equipment must have
an approved cord and plug and be
connected to a grounded electrical outlet.
• Do NOT bypass the ON/OFF switch and
operate equipment by connecting and
disconnecting the electrical cord.
• Do NOT use equipment that has exposed
wiring, damaged switches, covers or
guards.
• Do NOT use electrical equipment in wet
conditions or in damp locations.
• Do NOT use electrical cords to lift, move or
carry equipment.
• Do NOT coil or knot electrical cords, and
ensure electrical cords are not trip hazards.
General Service Information
•
The equipment must be serviced or
repaired at authorised service centres by
qualified personnel only.
• Replacement parts must be original
equipment manufacturer (OEM) to ensure
equipment safety is maintained.
• Do NOT attempt any maintenance or repair
work not described in this manual.
• After use, the equipment and components
may still be hot – allow the equipment to
cool and disconnect spark plugs and/or
electrical power sources and/or batteries
from it before adjusting, changing
accessories, or performing repair or
maintenance.
• Do NOT adjust while the equipment is
running.
• Perform service-related activities in suitable
conditions, such as a workshop.
• Replace worn, damaged or missing
warning/safety labels immediately.
Child Choking Hazard!

SUPERVISION REQUIRED.
• Carefully inspect anything a baby or child could gain access to, including this product & packaging.
• Dangers include anything of a size that could become stuck or lodged in a baby or child's airway.
• Dangers include things like raw, hard fruit and vegetable pieces, large pieces of meat, bones or sausage skins, popcorn, nuts,
hard lollies and corn chips, small magnets and batteries, coins, beads, marbles and small uninflated balloons, broken toys and smaller toys,
buttons, keys, and coins. But there are also many more.
• Pay particular attention to accessories, nuts, bolts, screws, washers, caps, covers, loose parts, parts that could be removed or break off, pieces
of packaging, staples, tape etc.
• In the case of any doubt, secure the item of concern in an appropriate manner, or completely remove the possibility of access by a baby or child.

ARNING: When using electric tools, machines, or equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk
of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. READ ALL INSTRICTIIONS BEFORE USING THIS TOOL!
• CAUTION! PINCH POINTS! Keep Hands Clear.
• KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
• OBSERVE WORK AREA CONDITIONS. Do not use machines or powered tools in damp, wet, or poorly lit locations. Don’t expose to rain. Keep
work area well lit. Do not use electrically powered tools in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
• KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not let them handle machines, tools, or extension cords.
• STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT. When not in use, tools must be locked up in a dry location to inhibit rust. Always lock up tools and keep out of reach
of children.
• DO NOT FORCE THE TOOLS. It will do the job better and more safety at the rate for which it was intended. Do not use inappropriate
attachments in an attempt to exceed the tool’s capacities.
• USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment to do the work of a large industrial tool. Do not use a
tool for purpose for which it was not intended.
• DRESS PROERLY. Do not wear loose clothing of jewellery as they can be caught in moving parts. Protective, electrically non-conductive clothes
and non-skid footwear are recommended when working. Wear restrictive hair covering to contain long hair.
• USE EYE AND EAR PROTECTION. Always wear ANSI approved chemical splash goggles when working with chemicals. Always wear ANSI
approved impact safety goggles at other times. Wear a full-face shield if you are producing metal filings or wood chips. Wear an ANSI approved
dust mask or respirator when working around metal, and chemical dusts and mists.
• DO NOT ABUSE THE POWER CORD. Do not yank it to disconnect it from the receptacle. Do not carry tools by the cord.
• DO NOT OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not reach over or across running machines.
• MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for better and safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing
accessories. The handles must be kept clean, dry, and free from oil and grease at all times.
• DISCONNECT POWER. Unplug when not in use, before servicing, and when changing accessories.
• REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Make it a habit to check that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from the tools or
machine work surface before plugging it in.
• AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING. Be sure the switch is in the OFF position when not in use and before plugging in. Do not carry any tool
with your finger on the trigger, whether it is plugged in or not.
• OUTDOORS EXTENSIONS CORDS. When the equipment is operated outdoors, use only extension cords intended for outside use. See chart
under “Extension Cords” for the proper AWG rating depending on the length of the cord(s) being used.

Assembly
Your Shear/Brake comes assembled with the BENDING TOOL (#27) already installed. To complete assemble
and prepare your Shear/Brake for use, follow the Steps below.
Mounting to a Wood Workbench
1. Measure the thickness of your workbench. It is suggested that to securely mount your Shear/Brake to a
wooden workbench, you mount lengths of wood underneath the mounting points.
2. Check if you need to purchase four bolts, nuts, and flat washers (these items are not included) for the
appropriate length for your workbench plus 1″ of length for the Shear/Brake.
3. Mark and drill holes through the workbench, using the Base (#1) as a template, for the four Mounting Holes
on the BASE of the Shear/Brake.
4. Position the Shear/Brake on your workbench and line up the holes you drilled in Step 3 with the Mounting
Holes in the BASE.
5. Insert the BOLT & NUT SET (user needs to supply these) into the Mounting Holes and through the
workbench as shown in Figure 1 below.

6. Tighten the bolts.
Mounting to a Metal Workbench
1. Measure the thickness of your workbench. It is suggested that a metal reinforcing plate should be cut and
ready to mount beneath the workbench for step 7.
2. Check if you need to purchase four bolts, nuts, and flat washers (these items are not included) for the
appropriate length for your workbench plus 1″ of length for the Shear/Brake.
3. Mark and drill holes through the workbench, using the BASE as a template, for the four Mounting Holes on
the Base of the Shear/Brake.
4. Mark and drill the reinforcing plate, using the BASE of the Shear/Brake as a template, for the four Mounting
Holes on the BASE of the Shear/Brake.
5. Position the Shear/Brake on your workbench and line up the holes you drilled in Step 3 with the holes in the
BASE.
6. Mount the Shear/Brake to the workbench. Refer to Figure 1.

7. Remember to attach the reinforcing plate underneath the workbench then thread on the nuts and tighten the
bolts.
Handle Assembly
1. Loosen the Knob located at the Handle Pivot on the right side of the Shear/Brake.
2. Insert the HAND LEVER (#6) into the Handle Pivot, grooved end first. When the groove in the HAND LEVER
is centred in the Handle Pivot, tighten the Knob as shown in Figure 2.

Bending Tool Adjustment and Removal
The BENDING TOOL (#27, #37) come in various widths and can be used for varying sizes of box and pan
forming. When forming a smaller box or pan, choose the desired size BENDING TOOL finger, centre it and
remove the others. See the Steps below for adjustment instructions.
1. Loosen the HEX HEAD SCREWS (#25) holding the BENDING TOOL Fingers in place.
2. Remove any unneeded BENDING TOOL fingers by sliding them out the left of the Shear/Brake as shown in
figure 3.

3. Insert any needed BENDING TOOLS appropriate for the job you will be doing behind the CLAMPING BAR
(#26).
4. lower the HAND LEVER (#6) to lower the installed BENDING TOOLS. This will adjust the alignment of the
BENDING TOOLS.
5. Tighten the HEX HEAD SCREWS.
Bending Prism Adjustment
You can adjust the radius of the bend you will make by changing the BENDING PRISM (#24) as described
below.
1. Loosen the CLAMP SCREW (#21) located on the backside of the Shear/Brake as shown in figure 4.

2. Raise the HAND LEVER to raise the Bending Assembly.
3. Lift the BENDING PRISM OUT OF THE GROOVE IN THE base (#1). Pull the BENDING PRISM forward out
of the END STOP (#22).
4. Rotate the BENDING PRISM 180 ° to use the optional radius as shown in Figure 5. Fit the BENDING PRISM
back into the groove.

5. Slide the END STOP (#22) back onto the BENDING PRISM (#24). Tighten the CLAMP SCREW (#21).

Removal and Installation of Upper Cutter
1. Lower the HAND LEVER to lower the LOWER CUTTER (#31).
2. Loosen the four MOUNTING SCREWS (#36) holding the UPPER CUTTER (#33) in place.
3. Remove the UPPER CUTTER. If you have not used all four cutting edges, you can rotate the UPPER
CUTTER to expose a sharp edge and reinstall without purchasing a replacement UPPER CUTTER.

4. Align the UPPER CUTTER (#33) so that it is flush with the LOWER CUTTER (#31) and secure with its
MOUNTING SCREWS (#36).
NOTE: The screws that hold the UPPER CUTTER (#33) must be tightened before tightening the CUTTER
HOLDER Screws; otherwise, the cutter will jam.
Removal and Installation of Lower Cutter
1. Raise the HAND LEVER to raise the LOWER CUTTER.
2. Loosen and remove the two MOUNTING SCREWS (#32) for the Move Hammer (#30) as shown in Figure 7.

3. Press the flat of the LOWER CUTTER against the UPPER CUTTER with your thumb and lower the HAND
LEVER. This will separate the LOWER CUTTER from the CUTTER HOLDER (#26).
4. Remove and replace the LOWER CUTTER. There are four cutting edges on the LOWER CUTTER. If you
have not used all four cutting edges, you can rotate the LOWER CUTTER to expose a sharp edge and
reinstall without purchasing a replacement LOWER CUTTER.
5. Press the LOWER CUTTER down against the CUTTER HOLDER.
6. Raise the HAND LEVER. Insert and tighten the MOUNTING SCREWS.

Operation
CAUTION! PINCH POINTS! Keep Hands Clear.
Shearing
1. Make sure the material you will be shearing is within the capacity of the tool. Do not use material that is
thicker than the rated capacity for your Shear/Brake.
2. Scribe the cutting mark on the material.
3. Slide the material between the UPPER CUTTER (#33) and the LOWER CUTTER (#31) so that the UPPER
CUTTER is positioned directly above the mark as shown in Figure 8.

4. While holding the material steady, lower the HAND LEVER (#6) until the material has been cut.
Angle Bending
1. Make sure the material you will be bending is within the capacity of the tool. Do not use material that is
thicker than the rated capacity for your Shear/Brake.
2. Use the appropriate BENDING TOOLS and BENDING PRISM radius for your needs. Refer to the
ASSEMBLY Step for adjustment.
3. Mark the workplace where you want to bend the material.
4. Place material above the BENDING PRISM (#24).
5. Align the bending mark with the front edge of the BENDING TOOL (S).
6. Lower the HAND LEVER (#6) until the desired angle has been formed. Use a protractor or other measuring
tool to ensure accuracy.

Pan forming
The Hand Brake Roll can used to make various sizes of pans.
1. Pre-measure and cut your material before bending. Notch the corners according to the desired lip height as
shown in Figure 9.1.
2. Insert material between the BENDING TOOL (S) and BENDING PISM. Bend the material until a 90-degree
angle has been formed as shown in Figure 9.
3. Rotate the material 90-degree counterclockwise. Allow the completed side to extend just beyond the dies.
Bend the second side.
4. Repeat Step 3 for the third side.
5. Rotate to the final side and insert work piece between the dies. Your formed sides will be on the outside of
the dies.
6. Before bending tap one corner nearer to the middle of the machine as shown in Figure 9.3. This will allow
the material to clear the UPPER DIE when raised.
7. Bend the fourth side.
8. Using a block or piece of wood, tap the comer of material back into place.

Radius Bending
Radius Bending is most used to make cylinders and cones, as shown in Figure 10. Both shapes are formed by
making a series of small, closely spaced bends in the work piece.

For cylinders, the bends are evenly spaced, i.e. every bend is identical. For cones, simply move one side of your
stock out further than the other every time you make a head.
