2. TYPES OF CUTTING USED F'_um28.
--Overcutling - beginon thetop sideofthelog
with the bottom of the saw against the log;
exertlightpressuredownward.
Undercutting - begin on the undersideofthe
fogwiththetopofthesaw againstthelog;exert
light pressure upward. During undercutting,
the saw willtend to pushback at you. Be pre-
pared for thisreaction and holdthesaw firmly
tomaintaincontrol.
A WARNING
If saw becomes pinched or hung in a log, don't tryto
force it out. Youcanloose control ofthesawresulting
in serious personal injury and/or damage tothe saw.
Stop the saw,drivea wedge ofplasticor woodintothe
cut until the saw can be removed easily. Figure 29.
Restart thesaw and carefully reenter the cut,Toavoid
ldckbackand chaindamage, do notusea metalwedge.
Do not attempttorestart yoursawwhen itispinchedor
hung in a log.

e Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw
with a firm grip. Maintain secure footing and bal-
ante.
Watch out for springpoles. Use extremecaution
when cutting small size limbs. Slender materia!
can catch the saw chain and be whippedtoward
youor pullyou offbalance.
Be alert for springback. Watch out for branches
that are bent or under pressure as you are cuing
toavoid beingstruckby the branchorthesaw when
the tensioninthe wood fibe_,_isreleased.
Keep a clear work area. Frequently clear bran-
ches outof the way toavoid tripping over them.

I Never climb into a tree to debranch or prune, Do not
_ stand on ladders, platforms, a log or in any position
| which cancause youto tose yourbalance or contrel of
| the saw.
