Stopping The Engine
Runenginefor a fewminutesbeforestoppingto helpdry off any
moistureonthe engine.
1. Movethrottlecontrolto STOP position.
2. Removethe key.Removingthe key will reducethe possibilityof
unauthorizedstartingof the enginewhileequipmentis not in use.
Keepthe keyin a safeplace.The enginecannotstart withoutthe
key.
3. Wipeanymoistureawayfrom the controlson theengine..
To Stop The Snow Thrower
1. Tostop thewheels,releasethe drivecontrol.
2. Tostop throwingsnow,releasethe augercontrol.
3. Tostop engine,movethrottlecontrolleverto OFF 0 and pullout
the key.Donot turnkey.
Thetemperatureof mufflerand the surroundingareasmayexceed
1500F.Avoidtheseareas.
Using Snow Thrower to Clear
Snow
CAUTION:Checktheareato be clearedfor foreignobjects.Remove
foreignobjects,if any.
1. Start the enginefollowingstartinginstructions.
2. Allowthe engineto warmup fora fewminutesas the enginewill not
developfull poweruntil it reachesoperatingtemperature.
3. Rotatethe chuteassemblyto the desireddirection,awayfrom
bystandersand/or buildings.
4. Makingcertainno bystandersor obstaclesare infront of the unit,
squeezethe augercontrolcompletelyagainstthe upperhandleto
fullyengagetheauger.
5. Whiletheauger controlisengaged,squeezethe drivecontrol
completelyagainsttheupperhandleto engagethe wheels.Do not
"feather"the drivecontrol.
6. As the snowthrowerstartsto move,maintaina firmholdon the
handle,and guide the snowthroweralong the pathto be cleared.
7. Releasethe augerand drive controlsto stop the snowthrowing
actionandforwardmotion.
NOTE:Yourunitisequippedwith a clutch inthe transmission.If the
wheelsstopturningwhiletrying to dischargelargevolumesof snow,
immediatelydisengagethedrivecontrol and allowthe rotatingauger
to dischargesnowfromthe housing.Reducethe clearingwidth and
continueoperation.
8. On each succeedingpass,readjustthe chuteassemblyto the
desiredpositionandslightlyoverlapthe previouslyclearedpath.
Positioning Discharge Chute
Loosenthechuteknoband pivotupperchuteto desiredposition.Tighten
the chuteknobmakingsurethe carriageboltiscorrectlypositioned.
Raisingthe chutethrowssnowfurther.
Rotatechutehandleto desiredoperatingposition.
Donot liftthe snowthrowerat any timeby thechutehandle.
Operating Tips
1. Formostdficientsnowremoval,removesnowimmediatelyafteritfalls.
2. Dischargesnowdownwindwheneverpossible.Slightlyoverlap
each previouspath.
3. Set the skid shoes 1/4"belowthe shaveplatefor normalusage.
The skidshoesmaybe adjustedupwardfor hard-packedsnow.
NOTE: It isnot recommendedthatyouoperatethis snowthroweron
gravelas loosegravelcan beeasily pickedup and thrown bythe auger
causingpersonalinjuryand/or damageto the snowthrower.
4. Ifyou chooseto operatethe snowthroweron gravel,keepthe skid
shoe inthe lowestpositionfor maximumclearancebetweenthe
groundandthe shaveplate.
5. Cleanthe snowthrowerthoroughlyafter eachuse.
REPLACING SHEAR PINS
The augeris securedto the spiralshaftwithtwo shearpinsandbow-
tie clips. Ifthe augershouldstrikea foreignobjector icejam,the snow
throweris designedso that the shearpinsmay shear.If auger will not
turn,checkto see ifthe pins havesheared.SeeFigure10.
NEVERreplacethe augershearpins withanythingotherthan OEM
PartNo.738-04124replacementshearpins.SeePartsList in this
Operator'sManual.Any damageto the snowthroweras a resultof
failingto do sowill NOTbe coveredbyyour snowthrower'swarranty.
Alwaysturn offthe snowthrower'sengineand removethe keypriorto
replacingshearpins.
