SYMPTOM PROBLEM TEST SOLUTION
Smoke enters the room
during start-up.
Damper in closed position. - Open damper.
Cold air blockage in chimney - Burn a piece of newspaper to establish a draft.
Close the doors. - Open outside air control damper.
Smoke enters the room
while re-loading.
NOTE: Open doors slow-
ly to allow pressures to
balance before opening
doors completely.
Damper in closed position - Open damper.
Insuffi cient draft. - Chimney height and outside conditions can negatively
affect draft. In these cases a small amount of smoke may
enter the home. Adding more pipe or a draft-inducing cap
may help.
- Clean chimney
