Use of rubber gloves and substantial footwear
is recommended when working outdoors.
Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.

hard hat and heavy-duty rubber work
gloves. Use face or dust mask if
operation is dusty.
6. Use right appliance - Do not use appliance
for any job except that for which it is intended.

should be carefully checked to determine that it will
operate properly and perform its intended function.
Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of
moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any
other condition that may affect its operation. A guard
or other part that is damaged should be properly
repaired or replaced by a qualified technician
unless indicated elsewhere in this manual.

Vibration Hazard
This tool vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term
exposure to vibration may cause temporary or
permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands,
arms and shoulders. To reduce the risk of vibration-
related injury:
1. Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an
extended period should first be examined by a
doctor and then have regular medical check-
ups to ensure medical problems are not being
caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women
or people who have impaired blood circulation
to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system
disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud’s Disease
should not use this appliance. If you feel
any symptoms related to vibration (such as
tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers),
seek medical advice as soon as possible.
2. Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces
the blood supply to the hands and fingers,
increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.
3. Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects
on the user.
4. Use appliances with the lowest vibration when
there is a choice between different processes.
5. Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
6. Grip appliance as lightly as possible
(while still keeping safe control of it).
Let the appliance do the work.
7. To reduce vibration, maintain the appliance
as explained in this manual. If any abnormal
vibration occurs, stop use immediately.

pruning Saw Safety
1. Keep all parts of the body away from saw chain.
Do not remove cut material or hold material to
be cut when saw chain is moving. Make sure the
switch is off when clearing jammed material. Saw
chain continues to move after the switch is turned
off. A moment of inattention while operating the
pruning saw may result in serious personal injury.
2. carry the pruning saw by the handle with the
saw chain stopped. When transporting or storing
the pruning saw, always fit the saw chain device
cover. Proper handling of the pruning saw will
reduce possible personal injury from the saw chain.
3. Hold pruning saw by insulated gripping surfaces
only, because the saw chain may contact hidden
wiring. Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may
make exposed metal parts of the pruning saw “live”
and could give the operator an electric shock.
4. Do not use the pruning saw in bad
weather conditions, especially when
there is a risk of lightning. This decreases
the risk of being struck by lightning.
5. to reduce the risk of electrocution, never
use near any electrical power lines. Contact
with or use near power lines may cause serious
injury or electric shock resulting in death.
6. always use two hands when operating
the pruning saw. Hold the pruning saw
with both hands to avoid loss of control.
7. always use head protection when operating
the pruning saw overhead. Falling debris
can result in serious personal injury.
8. Keep handles dry, clean, and
free from oil and grease.
9. Do not touch guide bar tip to any object.
Tip contact may cause guide bar to move
suddenly upward and backwards.
10. Do not operate pruning saw from within a tree.
Operation of tool while up in a tree
may result in personal injury.
11. Keep proper footing and operate the garden
power tool only when standing on fixed,
secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable
surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of
balance or control of the garden power tool.
12. When cutting a limb that is under tension, be
alert for spring back. When the tension in the
wood fibers is released, the limb may strike the
operator and/or throw the tool out of control.
13. Do not use for bore cutting, felling or bucking.
14. Keep bystanders and other workers at
least 50 feet from the work area.
15. Do not operate within 50 feet of electrical lines.
16. Use extreme caution when cutting brush
and saplings. The slender material may catch
the saw chain and be whipped around.
17. Follow instructions for lubricating, chain
tensioning and changing accessories.
Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may
either break or increase the chance for kickback.
18. Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or
incorrect operating procedures or conditions.
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the
guide bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Kickback can be avoided by taking
proper precautions as given below:
a. Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers
encircling the Pruning Saw handles, with
both hands on the saw and position your
body and arm to allow you to resist kickback
forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by
the operator, if proper precautions are taken.
Do not let go of the garden power tool.
b. Do not overreach. This helps prevent unintended
tip contact and enables better control of the
garden power tool in unexpected situations.
c. Only use replacement bars and chains
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect
replacement bars and chains may cause
chain breakage and/or kickback.
d. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening
and maintenance instructions for the
saw chain. Decreasing the depth gauge
height can lead to increased kickback.
19. Use for cutting wood only. Do not use for cutting
plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials.
20. The battery Charger gets hot during use.
The Charger’s heat can build up to
unsafe levels and create a fire hazard if it
does not receive adequate ventilation,
due to an electrical fault, or if it is used in a
hot environment.
Do not place the Charger on a flammable surface.
Do not obstruct any vents on the Charger.
especially avoid placing the charger on carpets
and rugs; they are not only flammable, but they
also obstruct vents under the charger.
Place the Charger on a stable, solid, nonflammable
surface (such as a stable metal workbench or
concrete floor) at least 1 foot away from all
flammable objects, such as drapes or walls. Keep a
fire extinguisher and a smoke detector in the area.
Frequently monitor the Charger and
Battery Pack while charging.
21. Maintain labels and nameplates on the appliance.
These carry important safety information.

and chain oil (sold separately) overnight.
2. Remove Cover Knob, then remove Drive Cover.

5. Place Saw Chain around Drive Sprocket, place
Guide Bar’s lower hole over Tension Pin. Check
again that the Saw Chain cutters are aligned
properly and the Saw Chain drive links are
seated completely in the slot of the Guide Bar.

6. Tighten Tensioning Screw until bottoms
of cutters contact bottom of Guide Bar,
then tighten an additional 1/4 turn.
7. Replace Drive Cover and Cover Knob.

should snap back to its original position,

several times, it should feel snug and

note: There should be no sagging between the
Guide Bar and Saw Chain on the underside of the
Guide Bar, and Drive Links should not be visible.

2. To remove: Press Battery Pack Release
Button and pull Battery Pack out of slot.
Saw chain lubrication
nOtice: to prevent damage to Saw chain, Drive bar and Drive Sprocket, keep Saw chain lubricated.
Do not operate pruning Saw without lubricating the chain with oil
before every use, or when the battery is depleted.
1. Turn off Pruning Saw and remove battery.
2. Place Pruning Saw on a level surface
with Drive Sprocket facing up.
3. Clean Guide Bar with a soft brush (sold separately).
4. Apply a small amount of bar and
chain oil directly on Saw Chain.
5. Install Battery.
6. Turn on Pruning Saw for a few
seconds to disperse the oil.
7. Use clean cloth (sold separately)
to remove excess oil.

• Do not operate pruning Saw with one hand. Only hold Pruning Saw with
both hands. Do not stand directly under branch being cut.
• Only stand on fixed, secure and level surface. Do not stand on a ladder or other support.
• Do not operate within 50 feet of electrical lines.
beFOre eVery USe:
a. Lubricate Saw Chain. (see Saw chain
lubrication on page 8).
b. Run Pruning Saw for 1-2 minutes.
c. Stop motor and remove Battery Pack.

d. Make sure Saw Chain is sharp.
DUrinG eVery USe:
Check tension often during the first half hour of use and
periodically during use. Adjust tension as necessary

1. To start, push and hold Trigger Lock, then squeeze
and hold Trigger. Release Trigger Lock.
To stop, release Trigger.
2. Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers
encircling the Pruning Saw’s handle, with both
hands on the saw and position your body and
arm to allow you to resist kickback forces.
3. Make sure Saw is running at full
speed before starting a cut.
4. Cut lower branches first.
5. Do not force Pruning Saw, let
Pruning Saw do the work.
6. Remove the Pruning Saw from
a cut while it is running.
WarninG! to prevent serious injury, if branch starts to fall, causing the saw to bind, leave
the saw and get away from where the saw and branch are likely to fall immediately.

a. Make first cut 4" to 6" from end of branch.
b. Make next cuts 4" to 6" from the previous
cuts, working toward the trunk.

cleaning, Maintenance and lubrication

condition of the tool. Check for:
• leaking, swollen, or cracked battery pack,
• loose hardware
• misalignment or binding of moving parts
• cracked or broken parts
• dull or damaged Saw Chain
• any other condition that may
affect its safe operation.
2. beFOre eacH USe, tension Saw Chain
according to check Saw chain tension on
page 7 and lubricate Saw Chain according
to Saw chain lubrication on page 8.
3. periODically Or WHen replacinG SaW
cHain, turn the Guide Bar over to distribute the
wear on it.
Replace the Guide Bar when bent, cracked, or
when the Saw Chain moves excessively from
side to side on the Guide Bar due to wear (see
Determining Guide bar Wear on page 11).
WarninG! tO preVent SeriOUS inJUry:
this tool comes with e&r 030 Guide bar and
Saw chain. When replacing Guide bar, make
sure the replacement matches the Saw chain.
4. aFter USe:
a. Remove Drive Cover, Saw Chain and Guide Bar.
b. Scrape debris loose from inside Drive Cover
and around Drive Sprocket, then wipe with
clean cloth and mild soap and water. Do not
use solvents. Do not immerse tool in liquid.
c. Remove sawdust and sap from the
Guide Bar’s Groove using a bar groove
cleaning tool (sold separately).
d. Wipe Guide Bar with clean cloth, including oil
passages, then lubricate with bar and chain oil.
e. Wipe debris from Saw Chain, then
lubricate with bar and chain oil.
f. Replace Guide Bar, Saw Chain and Drive
Cover, leave Saw Chain loose during storage.
g. Clean outside surfaces with a clean, dry
cloth. If necessary use mild soap and water.
h. Place Guide Bar Cover over Saw
Chain, then Store Pruning Saw in a dry,
secure location away from children.
5. Li-Ion BATTERY MUST BE RECYCLED OR
DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.

Sharpening/replacing Saw chain
1. Have the cutters sharpened by a
qualified technician when:
a. The sawdust becomes powder-like.
b. You can’t make the cut without extra force.
c. The Pruning Saw does not cut straight.
d. Vibration increases.
2. A Saw Chain that is damaged or too worn to be
restored by sharpening will need to be replaced.

this tool comes with e&r 030 Guide bar and
Saw chain. When replacing Guide bar, make
sure the replacement matches the Saw chain.
Determining Guide bar Wear
The rails of the Guide Bar groove should
always be parallel to each other. Place a
ruler along the side of the Guide Bar and
Saw Chain. If there is a gap, the bar is normal.

limited 90 Day Warranty
Harbor Freight Tools Co. makes every effort to assure that its products meet high quality and durability standards,
and warrants to the original purchaser that this product is free from defects in materials and workmanship for the
period of 90 days from the date of purchase. This warranty does not apply to damage due directly or indirectly,
to misuse, abuse, negligence or accidents, repairs or alterations outside our facilities, criminal activity, improper
installation, normal wear and tear, or to lack of maintenance. We shall in no event be liable for death, injuries
to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special or consequential damages arising from the use of
our product. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the
above limitation of exclusion may not apply to you. THIS WARRANTY IS EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER
WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS.
To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges
prepaid. Proof of purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise.
If our inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election or we may
elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will
return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that the defect resulted
from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
