OPERATION
1. Open the lower access panel located under the heater screen.
2. Turn control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.
3. Close lower access panel.
INSPECTING BURNERS
Check pilot ame pattern and burner ame patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 20 shows a correct pilot ame pattern. Figure 21 shows an incorrect pilot ame pattern. The
incorrect pilot ame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When
the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.
If pilot ame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 21.
• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, above).
• see Troubleshooting, page 23-25.
Note: The pilot ame on natural gas units will have a slight curve, but ame should be blue and have
no yellow or orange color.
WARNING: If yellow tipping occurs, your heater could produce increased levels of carbon
monoxide. If burner ame pattern shows yellow tipping, follow instructions at bottom of this
page.
WARNING: Do not allow fans to blow directly into the heater. Avoid any drafts that alter burner
ame patterns.
WARNING: Do not use a blower insert, heat exchanger insert or other accessory not approved for
use with this heater.
Notice: Do not mistake orange ames with yellow tipping. Dirt or other ne particles enter the heater
and burn causing brief patches of orange ame.
