OPERATION
1. Open the lower access panel located under the heater screen.
2. Turn control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.
3. Close lower access panel.
INSPECTING BURNERS
Check pilot ame pattern and burner ame patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 20 shows a correct pilot ame pattern. Figure 21 shows an incorrect pilot ame pattern. The
incorrect pilot ame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When
the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.
If pilot ame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 21.

Note: The pilot ame on natural gas units will have a slight curve, but ame should be blue and have
no yellow or orange color.
WARNING: If yellow tipping occurs, your heater could produce increased levels of carbon
monoxide. If burner ame pattern shows yellow tipping, follow instructions at bottom of this
page.
WARNING: Do not allow fans to blow directly into the heater. Avoid any drafts that alter burner
ame patterns.
WARNING: Do not use a blower insert, heat exchanger insert or other accessory not approved for
use with this heater.
Notice: Do not mistake orange ames with yellow tipping. Dirt or other ne particles enter the heater
and burn causing brief patches of orange ame.
