Changingorremovingaharddiskpassword
Tochangeorremovetheharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
•IfyouareinUser+Masterharddiskmode,youcanselecteitherUserHDPorMasterHDPtochange
thepassword,dependingonyourneeds.
–IfyouselectUserHDPmode,followthefollowingstepstochangetheuserharddiskpassword:
1.TypethecurrentuserharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeldandpressEnter.
2.TypethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeldandpressEnter;thenretypethe
passwordintheConrmNewPasswordeldandpressEnter.
3.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEnteragaintocontinue.Theuserharddiskpassword
ischanged.
Note:TheharddiskpasswordcannotberemovedinUserHDPmode.
–IfyouselectMasterHDPmode,followthefollowingstepstochangethemasterharddiskpassword:
1.TypethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeldandpressEnter.
2.TypethenewmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeldandpressEnter;then
retypethenewpasswordyoujustenteredintheConrmNewPasswordeldandpressEnter.
3.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertocontinue.Themasterharddiskpasswordis
changed.
Note:IfyouleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblankandpressEnter
twice,boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordsareremoved.
•IfyouareinUserharddiskmode,followthefollowingstepstochangetheuserharddiskpassword:
1.Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage54,typingyourpasswordtoget
accesstotheThinkPadSetupprogram.
2.TypethecurrentuserharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeldandpressEnter.
3.TypethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeldandpressEnter;thenretypethenew
passwordintheConrmNewPasswordeldandpressEnter.
4.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEnteragaintocontinue.Theuserharddiskpasswordis
changed.
Note:IfyouleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblankandpressEnter
twice,theuserharddiskpasswordisremoved.
Tipsonusingtheharddiskpasswords
•YoucansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpasswordthroughtheSecuritymenu.
•Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,theharddiskdrivecanbeusedonlywitha
computerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyoutheninstallthe
harddiskdriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthatcontainsmorethan
sevencharacters,youcannotaccessthedrive.
•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orbothuser
andmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromtheharddisk
drive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethehard
diskdrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.
