4.2.11.6. The Overdub Button
The Overdub button plays an important role in Step Edit mode when you are editing the
content of a specific step.
While overdub is ON, any notes you play on the keyboard will be added to the existing notes
of that step.
Selecting a step in Overdub mode enables you to selectively extend some or all of the
notes in chord: Hold the keys of the chord you want to extend and press Tie/Rest once or
repeatedly to extend the gate length of the selected notes.
Pressing the Tie/Rest button in Overdub without holding any keys down is a quick way to
move forward through the steps of a pattern. Again this only works when Overdub is on.
♪: In Quick Edit mode, the Tie/Rest button does nothing.
When Overdub is OFF, any new notes you play will replace the existing notes in the step.
You can always tell whether you're in add or replace mode: if you are in Quick Edit or Step
Edit mode and the LED above a key blinks the existing notes of the step will be replaced.
To extend a chord/notes in a step to the next steps, erasing the content of the step(s)
following it, hold the notes in the step and press Tie/Rest. Repeat this to extend the notes of
the chord over several steps.
With Overdub OFF, pressing the Tie/Rest button is a quick way to delete the steps of a
pattern. The cursor moves to the next step, deleting current step content.
