Safety precautions
Keep this manual for future reference.
Operator safety
Read this manual carefullyand make sure you under-
stand all controlsand their function.
Keep in mind thatthe operatoror user is responsible
foraccidentsor hazards occurringto other people or
their property.
°Always wear heavy, long pants, boots and donot weer
short pants, sandals or go barefoot.
Make sure that the working area is clear of pebbles,
sticks or other debds. These objects could be thrown
out from the machine and cause an InJuryorequipment
damage. Avoid ddvtngacross gravelled paths, etc.
Never start or run the engine inside a closed room or
building. Breathing exhaust fumes can kill.
Do notallow childrenor people unfamiliarwith these
instructions to use the mower.
Do not mow while people, especially children, or pets
are Inthe mowing area.
Take agraat deal of carewhen reversing thedirection
of travel or pulling the mower towards you.
Disconnect blade drive and traction mechanisms be-
fore starting the engine.
Tool safety
Inspect the entire tool before each use. Replace
damaged parts.Chackforfuelleaks and make sureall
fasteners are in place and securely fastened.
Replace faulty silencer.
Before using, always visually inspectto see that the
blades, blade boltsand cutterassembly am notworn
ordamaged. Replacewornordamagedblades andbolts
In sets to preserve balance.
Donotchange theenginespeed regulationsettingsor
ovsrspeed the engine.
Fuel safety
Warning- Petrol is highlyflammable.
Pour fue!outdoorsand where there are no sparks or
flames.
Use a container approved forfuel.
Do notsmoke orallow smokingnear fuel orthe tool or
while usingthe tool.
Wipe up all fuel spills and wait until vapors have
dissipated beforestarting engine.
Move at least 3 meters away from fuelingsite before
startingengine.
Stop engine beforeremovingfuel cap.
Replace fuel cap and spare fuel containercap before
startingengine.
DOnot fillpetrol when engineIs warm.
If petroltank must be drained, drain tank outdoors.
Cutting safety
Mow only Indaylight or good quality artificiallight.
As far as possible, avoid mowing wet grass.
Mowingon slopescan be dangerous. Donot mow on
very steep slopes. Mow across the face of slopes,
never up and down. Take agreatdear of care when
changingdirectiononslopingground.
The mowershouldnotbe usedongroundthatslopes
more than 30°. This could cause engine lubrication
problems.
Never transportthe mower withthe engine running.If
transportrequiresthe mowertobe lifted,the operator
mustfirst makesurethatthecuttingblade hasstopped.
Never operate the mower with defective guards or
shields,orwithoutsafetydevices, for example deflec-
tors and/or grass catchers, in place.
Start the engine or switch of the motor carefully
accordingtoinstructionsand withfeet wellaway from
the blade(s).
Do not tilt the mower when starting the engine or
switchingonthe motor, except ifthe mowerhas tobe
tiltedfor starting.In thiscase, do not tiltit more than
absolutelynecessaryandliftonlythepartwhichisaway
from the operator.
Do notstart the engine when standing in front of the
dischargechute.
Keephandsand feat well awayfrom rotatingblade.On
models withopen chute, never stickhand intochute.
Never pick up or carry a mower while the engine is
running.
Stopthe engineand disconnect the spark plugwire:
beforeclearingblockagesor uncloggingchute;before
checking, clearing or working on the mower. After
stdkingaforaignobject, inepectthemowerfordamage
and make repairsbefore restartingand operatingthe
mower. If mower starts to vibrate abnormally (check
immediately). Stop the engine before you leave the
mower: before refuelling.
ReturnthrottlecontroltoSTOP positionand placefuel
shut-offvalve inOFF positionwhenfinished mowing.
Maintenance -and storage safety
Regularly check that all bolts, screws and nuts are
tightened. Replace any damaged partsimmediately.
Only use originalspare parts.
Store tooland fuelin an area wherefuelvaporscannot
reach sparks or open flames from water heaters,
electdc motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
Allowthe enginetocoolbeforestodngInanyenclosura.
To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer,
battery compartment and petrolstorage area free of
grass, leaves, or excessive grease.
Check the grass catcher frequentlyfor wear or dete-
rioration.
Transport safety
Removethesparkpluglead.Loosenthewire/cablefrom
the handle before carefullyfolding the handle. Avoid
damagingthewire/cable.Emptythepetroltank. Before
public transporting engine oil and patrol must be
removed.
