HOW l'O USE HEART RATE PROGRAMS
CAUTION: ,youha,,heartprob-
lems, or if you are over _ years of age and
have been inactive, do not use the heart rate
programs. If you are taking medication regu-
larly, consult your physician to find whether the
medication will affect your exercise hearl rate.
Followthestepsbelowto usea heartrate program.
Note: You must wear the optional chest pulse sen-
sor (see page 23) to use a heart rate program.
B Put on the chest pulse sensor.
See the instructions includedwith the optional
chest pulse sensor.
B Insert the key fully into the console.

B Select a heart rate program.
When the key is
inserted, the man-
ual mode willbe
selected. To se-
lect a heart rate
program, press

Program button repeatedly the HR1 or HR2 indi-
cator lights.
During heart rate
programs, the
program display
willshow a
graphic that rep-
resents your
heart rate. Each
time a heartbeat
is detected, an additional peak will appear.

When a heart ratepro-
gram isselected,the let-
ters "AGE" and the cur-
rentage settingwill
begintoflash inthe
Speed display.You must
enteryourage to usea heart rateprogram. If you
have already entered your age, press the Start
button(pressingthe Startbuttonat thistime will
notstartthe program).Ifyou have notentered
yourage, presstheAge/WeightSet buttonsuntil
yourage isshown.Then, pressthe Startbutton.
Yourage willthen be savedin memory.
[]Adjust the maximum speed limit for the
program.
After you have entered
your age, the letters
"SPd" (speed) and the
maximum speed limit for
the program will flash in
the Speed display. If de-

sired, change the maximumspeed limit by press-
ingthe 1-stepSpeed buttons.
r_ Press the Start button or the Speed + button to
start the program.
A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-
millwillautomaticallyadjust tothe firstspeed and
incline settings for the program. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
Each heart rate program isdivided into20 one-
minute segments.(The Time/Pace display will
show boththe timeremaininginthe programand
the time remaininginthe currentsegment ofthe
program.) One target heart ratesettingispro-
grammed for each segment.(The same target
heart ratesettingmay be programmed forconsecu-
tivesegments.)
