Brother MFC-9130CW Questions and Answers

#1 Does it do two sided printing ?

I thought the price I paid for this all-in-one color laser was reasonable, but NO, the 9130CW does not auto duplex. manual duplexing is an option, but any printer can manual duplex. if you're looking for a brother printer, pay attention to the letters at the end of the model #. CW = color + wireless (no auto duplex). CDW = color + auto duplex + wireless. DN = auto duplex + wired network only (no "C" means monochrome).

#2 Can you select to only use black toner when printing in black and white?

This is from the user's manual. "If you know your document is black and white and you want to conserve color toner, select Mono mode". Mono: "Select this mode if the document has only black and grayscale text and/or objects. If your document contains color, this mode prints the document in 256 levels of gray using the black toner." I am reading now, The default setting is Auto. With Auto, the machine checks the content of the document for color. if color is detected anywhere in the document, it will mix some of the colors in the toner. So to avoid this, make sure to change the User setting to Mono. I learned something. going to check mine now. BTW, this is a wonderful printer!! I love it. hope this helps.

#3 Can the printer still print black and white only if the color cartridges run out?

If your Brother machine's cyan, magenta, or yellow toner runs out, choosing 'Mono' in the printer driver will allow you to keep printing along as the black toner does not run out. If your Brother machine's black toner cartridge runs out, you will not be able to print until you replace it.
