Gettingto KnowYour
MicrowaveOven
This section discusses the concepts behind microwave cooking. It also shows you the basics you need to know
to operate your microwave oven. Please read this information before you use your oven.
HOW YOUR KENMORE MICROWAVE HOOD
COMBINATION WORKS
Microwaveenergy isnot hot. Itcauses food to make
itsown heat, and it's thisheat that cooks thefood.
Microwavesare likeTV waves, radiowaves, or
lightwaves. You cannot see them, butyou can see
what they do.
A magnetron in the microwave oven produces
microwaves.The microwaves move into theoven
where they contact food as it turns on theglass tray.

For the best cooking results
Always cook food for the shortest cooking time
recommended. Check to see how the food is
cooking.
Stir, turn over, or rearrange the food being
cooked abouthalfway through the cooking time
for allrecipes. Thiswillhelp make sure the food is
evenly cooked.
Ifyou do not have a cover for a dish, usewax
paper, or microwave-approved paper towels or
plasticwrap. Remember to turn back a corner of
the plastic wrap to vent steam during cooking.
The glass tray of yourmicrowave oven lets
microwavespass through. Then they bounce off a
metalfloor, back throughthe glass tray, and
are absorbed bythe food.
Microwaves pass through most glass, paper, and
plasticswithout heatingthem sofood absorbs the
energy. Microwaves bounceoff metal containersso
food does not absorb theenergy.
Radio interference
Usingyour microwave oven may cause interference
to your radio,TV, or similar equipment. When there
is interference, you can reduce itor remove it by:

oven.

television.
Moving the receiver away from the microwave
oven.
Pluggingthe microwave oven into a different
outlet so that the microwave oven and receiver are
on differentbranch circuits.
