Using the Griddle
User Guide for the Griddle
•
The griddle has been coated with an enamel finish.
•
The griddle needs to be seasoned before using by
following these steps:
- Rub with Kosher salt to scour out any impurities
Wash it with hot, soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- Rub with oil all over the cooking surface and
handles.
- Place in the oven and preheat to 350˚F.
- Leave the griddle in the 350F oven for 2 hours.
- Remove and allow to completely cool.
- Repeat with rubbing with oil and placing in the
350˚F oven 2 more times.
•
The seasoning is important because it allows food
to naturally release from the griddle-the griddle
does not have a chemical nonstick coating.
•
The more the griddle is used, the better it gets for
cooking.
•
Use a little extra cooking oil or spray when using
the seasoned griddle in the beginning-this will add
to the conditioning of the griddle.
Cooking with the Griddle
•
The griddle sits on the cook top grate.
•
Heat the griddle slowly before cooking will minimize
hot spots on the cooking surface and insure a
longer life to the griddle.
•
Test the surface of the griddle’s temperature by
taking a few drops of water and place on the
griddle. The water should dance and evaporate
quickly. If it doesn’t sizzle and the water turns to
steam, it is not ready.
•
When your griddle is properly heated, it shouldn’t
need to go above medium for cooking because of
its excellent heat retention.
Use and Care for the Griddle
•
Avoid greasy food on the griddle because it may
cause the grease to spill over onto the exposed
burner.
•
Metal utensils can cause damage to the cooking
surface of the seasoned cast iron. Silicon coated
high heat utensils are the best choice for cooking.
•
Color changes in the griddle with use is acceptable
as the griddle become more seasoned.
•
Allow the griddle to cool down completely before
cleaning in warm, soapy water.
•
Always thoroughly dry the griddle after washing.
•
Never place the griddle in a dishwasher to clean it.
