Is Your ATV Ready to Ride?

If you are carrying cargo, also check the following:
Check these items after you get on the ATV:
Cable Check the cable housings for wear. Check
the fittings for looseness. Replace or tighten
as needed.
Lights Make sure the headlight, brake light and tail
light are working properly.
Loading Limits Make sure you do not exceed the load
limits (page 60).
Cargo Check that all cargo is secure.
Throttle Check the freeplay and adjust if needed.
Press the throttle to make sure it moves
smoothly without sticking, and snaps shut
automatically when it is released, in all
steering positions (page 152).
Brakes Squeeze the front brake lever and rear
brake lever/parking brake lever and step on
the rear brake pedal to check that the
controls operate normally. Depress the rear
brake pedal several times, then check for
proper rear brake lever/parking brake lever
freeplay (pages 169). Make sure there is no
brake fluid leakage.
Reverse Assist Lever Check the freeplay and adjust if needed
(page 154). Make sure the lever operates
smoothly without sticking.
