AboutSIPAddresses

SIPaddressesareusedtoidentifyuserswithinanetworkjustlikeyouwoulduseaphonenumberoranemailaddresstocontacta

friendorcolleague.

Likeemailaddresses,SIPaddressesareatypeofuniformresourceidentier(URI)thatincludetwouser-specicparts,auserIDor

extensionandadomainorIPaddress.Togetherwithaprexandthe@symbol,theymakeupauniqueaddress.Forexample,if

CaesarofancientRomehadbothanemailaddressandaSIPaddress,theywouldbemailto:[email protected]

andsip:[email protected]respectively.Forlocalpeer-to-peercallsonlytheIPaddressisrequired.Formore
