Connecting to External Devices
Connect headphones to the [PHONES] jack. The
instrument’s speakers are automatically shut off
when a plug is inserted into this jack.
By connecting a footswitch (FC5 or FC4A, sold sepa-
rately) to the [SUSTAIN] jack, you can control three
functions: Sustain, Articulation (page 27), and
Arpeggio (page 26).
By default, the Sustain function is assigned to the
footswitch. Similar to the damper pedal on a piano,
while you press the footswitch you can still hear a
note sustain even after you release the keyboard.
Make settings for functions other than Sustain in the
Function Settings (page 64, Function 054).
If you use the [OUTPUT] jacks to connect to pow-
ered speakers, you can produce a louder, more pow-
erful sound for more dynamic performances.
You can use the instrument’s [MASTER VOLUME]
control to adjust the volume that is output to external
devices.
Turning Off the Keyboard’s Speakers
Set Function 079 “Speaker” in the Function Settings
(page 66) to “3 (SP Off).
CAUTION
Before connecting the instrument to external devices, turn off the power of all the devices. Also, before turning the power on or
off, make sure to set all volume levels to minimum. Otherwise, damage to the devices or electrical shock might occur.
Connecting Headphones
Do not use headphones for a long period of time at a high or
uncomfortable volume level. Doing so can cause permanent
hearing loss.
If you set Function 079 “Speaker” in the Function Settings
(page 66) to something other than “1 (HPSwitch),” you can turn
the speaker on or off regardless of whether or not headphones
are connected.
Using a Pedal (Footswitch)
Plug or unplug the footswitch while the power is off. Also, do
not press the footswitch when turning the power on. Doing so
changes the polarity of the footswitch, resulting in reversed
operation.
Sustain is not applied to Split Voices (page 25).
Some Voices will not decay until you release the footswitch.

NOTE
Playing Sound from External
Speakers
To avoid damaging external devices, first turn on the power
to the instrument, and then to the external device. When
turning off the power, first turn off the power to the external
device, and then to the instrument.
The Auto Power Off function (page 18) might automatically
turn off the instrument at undesirable times. If the instru-
ment will not be operated for a certain period of time,
either turn off the power to external devices or disable the
Auto Power Off function.
Do not connect the output from the [OUTPUT] jacks
directly to the [AUX IN] jack. In addition, when using the
[OUTPUT] jacks to connect to an external device, do not
connect the output jacks of the external device to the [AUX
IN] jack. Doing so will cause the audio that is input to the
[AUX IN] jack to be output from the [OUTPUT] jacks,
resulting in feedback that could damage both devices.
Use audio cables and adaptor plugs with zero resistance.
When connecting to a monaural device, use the [L/L+R] jack.
