MAINTENANCE
Beforeperformingany maintenanceor repairs,disengageblades,
stopengineand removekey to preventunintendedstarting.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Alwaysobservesafetyruleswhenperformingany type of
maintenanceon the mower.
Thewarrantyon this lawnmowerdoesnot coveritemsthathave
beensubjectedto operatorabuseor negligence.To receivefull
valuefromwarranty,operatormustmaintainthe lawnmoweras
instructedinthismanual.
Changingof engine-governedspeedwill voidenginewarranty.
All adjustmentsshouldbe checkedat least onceeach season.
Periodicallycheckall fastenersand makesuretheyare tight.
ENGINE MAINTENANCE
Checking the Engine Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachuse.Stopengineand wait severalminutes
beforecheckingoil level.With engineon levelground,
theoil mustbe to FULLmarkondipstick.
1. Removethe Oil Cap/Dipstickand wipewith a
cleancloth.
2. Replaceand tighten Oil Cap/Dipstick.Remove
OilCap/Dipstickand checkoil level.Level
shouldbeat FULLmark.
3. If needed,add oil slowlyinto the engineoil fill. Recheckoil level.
Do notoverfill.
4. ReinsertOil Cap/Dipstickand tighten.
Do notoverfill.Overfillingwithoil maymakethe enginehardto start,
ornot to start.If overthe FULLmarkon the dipstick,drainoil levelto
FULLmarkondipstick.
Changing the Engine Oil
Ifthe enginehasbeen recentlyrun,the engine,mufflerand sur-
roundingmetal surfaceswill be hotand can causeburnsto the skin.
Exercisecautionto avoidburns.
Theoil intheengineshouldbe changedafter thefirst two hoursof
operationand every25 hoursof operation.
1. Runthe enginefor a few minutesto allowthe oil in the crankcase
to warmup. Warmoilwill flowmorefreelyandcarryawaymoreof
theenginesedimentwhichmay havesettledat thebottomof the
crankcase.Usecareto avoidburnsfromhotoil.

Togainaccessto theoil drainvalveonthe engine,pivotthe right
handlebracetube forward.
a. Removethe upperstarknob andcarriagescrewonthe right
side of the handle,Figure12.
b. Pivotthe bracetube towardsthefront of the mowerto allow
roomto connectthe oildrainhoseto the oil drainvalve,

Popoff the protectivecapon theend of theoil drainvalve to
exposethe drainport. See Figure13.

4. Removethe oilfill cap/dipstickfromtheoil fill tube,Figure13.
5. Pushtheoildrainhose(packedwiththismanual)ontotheoil drain
port.Routetheoppositeendd thehoseintoanappropriateoilcollec-
tioncontainerwithat leasta 2.5quartcapacity,tocollecttheusedoil.
6. Releasethe valveby pressingthe twotabs inwardwhilepulling
the valveout.The oilwill beginto drainout of the engine.
