GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoid us)rigsolventswhen cleaningplastic parts. Most
plasticsare susceptibleto damage from varioustypes of
commercial solventsand may De damaged by their use.
Use clean clothsto remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating
oils, etc., come in contact with plast'lcparts.
Chemicals can damage, weaken or destroy plastic
which may reauRin serious personal {niury.
Electdc tools used onfiberglassmaterial, wallboard,
spackling compounds, or plaster are subjectto
accelerated wear and possibleprematurefailure because
thefiberglass chipsand gdndingsare highlyabrasiveto
bearings, brushes, commutators, etc. Consequently,we
do not recommended using this tool for extended work on
thesetypes of materials. However, ifyou do work with any
of these materials, it is extremely importantto clean the
tool using compressed air.
LUBRICATION
All ofthe bearingsin thistoci are tubdcatedwith a sufficient
amount of highgrade lubricant for tile lifeof the unitunder
normal operating conditions.Therefore, no further lubrica-
tion is required.
Only the parts shown on the parts llst are intended to be
repa]redor replaced by the customer. Allotherparts should
be replaced at a Sears Service Center.
CUTTERS
Get faster and more accurate cutting results by keeping
cuttersclean andsharp. Remove all ancumulated pitchand
gum from cutters after each use.
When sharpening cutters, sharpen only the inside of the
cutting edge. Never grind the outside diameter. Be sure
when sharpeningthe end of a cutter to grindthe clearance
angleto the same angle as odginaUyground.
COLLET
Dustand chipsmay collect on the coltat from time to time,
makingit necessary to clean the collet. To do so, remove
the colletassembly and wipe it with a cleandwyrag. Clean
the taper in the shaft in the same manner.Never immerse
thetoilet or end of theshaft ina solventor in water. Before
replacingthe colfetasserobly, put a drop of SAE30 motor
oilon the inside of thenut, on the threadsof theshaft, and
on the taper in the shaft. Replace thecollar assembly onto
the shaftby hand only. Never tighten the toilet nutwithout
a cutterIn thecoilet. Thisactioncould permanentlydamage
the collet.
BRUSH ASSEMBLIES
See Figure24.
The muter hasexternally accessfble brush assemblies that
shouldperiodicallybe checked for wear.
TOreplace brush assemblies;
Unplug the router.
Remove brushcap with a screwdriver.Brushassembly
Is springloaded and will pop cut when you remove
brushcap.
Remove brush assembly (brushand spring}.
Check for wear. If worn, always replacein pairs. Do not
replaceone side without replacingthe other.
ReasserobIeusingnew brush assemblies. Make sure
curvature of brushmatches curvatureof motorand that
brushmoves freely in brushtube.
Make sure brush cap is orientedcorrectly(straight) and
replace.
Tightenbrush cap securely.Do not over tighten.
