CARB, U.S. EPA and B&S are pleasedto explainthe Emission
ControlSystemWarrantyonyour1996 andlat_" utilityor lawnand
gardenequipment(ULGE)engine.InCalifomia,newULGEengines
producedonor after August1, 1995 must be designed,builtand
equippedto meetthe State'sstringentanti-smogstendards_Else-
where in the UnitedStates, newnon-road,spark-ignitionengines
certifiedfor modelyear 1997and later,mustmeetsimilarstandards
setforthbythe U.S. EPA.B&S mustwarrantthe emissioncontrol
systemonyourengineforthe pe_s of time listedbelow,provided
there hasbeennoabuse,neglector impropermaintenanceofyour
ULGEengine.
Youremissioncontrolsystamincludespartssuchasthe carburetor,
air cleaner,ignitionsystem,mufflerend catalyticconverter.Also
includedmaybeconnectorsandotheremissionrelatedassemblies.
Where awarrantablecondition exists,B&Swillrepairyour ULGE
engine at nooust toyouincludingdiagnosis,partsand labor.

ULGE engines are warranted relativeto emissioncontrol parts bstow.lfanycoveredpartonyourenginaisdefective,thepartwillbe
defectsfor a periodof two years, subjectto provisionsset forth repairedorreplacedby B&S.

AstheULGEengineowner,youare responsiblefor theperformance
ofthe requiredmaintenancelistedin yourOperatar/OwnerManual.
B&Srecommendsthatyouretainallyourreceiptscoveringmainta.
nanceonyourULGEengine,but B&Scannotdenywarrantysolely
forthe lackofreceiptsorfor yourfailuretoensurethe performanceof
allscheduledmaintenance.
Asthe ULGEengineowner,youshouldhoweverbeawarethat B&S
maydenyyouwarrantycoverageifyourULGEengineoraparthas
failedduetoabuse, neglect,impropermaintenanceor unapproved
modifications.
Youare responsibleforpresentingyourULGE enginetoan Autho-
rizedB&SServiceDeeleras soonas a problemexists.The undis-
pu:tsdwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedina reasonableamount
oftime,nottoexceed30 days,

Theemissionwarrantyisa defectswarranty.Defectsarejudgedon
normalenginepedormanos.Thewarrantyisnot relatedtoan in-use
emissiontest.

for non-regulatedenginesfound intheOperatar/OwnerManual.
1. WarrantedParts
Coverageunderthis warrantyextendsonly to the partslisted
below(theemissioncontrolsystemsparts) tothe extentthese
partswere presentonthe enginepurchased.

2. LengthofCoverage
B&Swarrantstotheinitialownerandeachsubsequentpurchaser
thattheWarrantedPartsshallbe freefrom defectsin materials
and workmanshipwhichcaused the failure of the Warranted
Partsfora pariud oftwoyearsfrom thedatethe engine isdeliv-
eredtoa retailpumhaser.
3. NoCharge
Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwillbeperformed
atnochargetotheowner,includingdiagnostic laborwhichlaeds
tothe determination that a Warranted Part is defective, if the
diagnostic work is performed at an AuthorizedB&S Service
Dealer. For emissionswarrantyservicecontactyour nearest
Authorized B&S Service Dealeras listed inthe "YellowPages"
under =Engines, Gasoline," "Gasoline Engines," "Lawn
Mowers," orsimilarcategory.
4. Claims and Coverage Exclusions
Warrantyclaimsshallbefiled in accordancewiththeprevisions
ofthe B&SEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverage shallbe
excluded for failures of Warranted Partswhichare not original
B&S parts or because of abuse, neglector improper mainte-
nenosas setforth Inthe B&SEngineWarrantyPolicy.B&S isnot
liable tocoverfailuros ofWarranted Partscaused bythe use of
add-on, non..odginal,or modified parts.
5. Maintenance
Any WarrantedPartwhichis not scheduledfor replacementas
required maintenance or which is scheduledonly for regular
inspection to theeffectof=repairor replaceasnecessary" shall
be warranted as to defects for the warranty period. Any
WarrantedPartwhichisscheduledforreplacementas required
maintenanceshall be warrantedas todefectsonlyfor theperiod
of time up to the first scheduledreplacement forthat part. Any
replacementpartthat isequivalentinperformanceand durability
may be usedinthe performance ofany maintenanceorrepairs.
The owner is responsible for the performanceof all required
maintenance, as defined in the B&SOperator/Owner Manual.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coverage hereunder shall extend to the failure of any engine
componentscausedby the failure of any Warranted Part still
underwarranty.
