or pilot lightas ona furnace,water heater,clothesdryer,or gas
appliance.
PREPARING THE ENGINE
iMPORTANT:Fuelleftinthe fueltankduringwarmweatherdeterio-
ratesandwillcauseseriousstartingproblems.
Gasolineisa toxic substance.Disposeof gasolineproperly.Contact
your localauthoritiesfor approveddisposalmethods.
To preventgumdepositsfrom forminginsidethe engine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,the fuelsystemmust
be eithercompletelyemptied,or the gasolinemustbetreatedwitha
stabilizerto preventdeterioration.
1. Ifusinga fuel stabilizer:
• Readthe productmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecommenda-
tions.
• Addto clean,freshgasolinethe correctamountof stabilizerfor
the capacityof the fuel system.
• Fillthe fueltankwithtreatedfuel andrunthe enginefor 2-3
minutesto get stabilizedfuel intothe carburetor.
2. Ifemptyingthe fuel system:
• Donot drainfuelwhenthe engineis hot.Allowthe engine
adequatetime to cool. Drainfuelinto anapprovedcontainer
outdoors,awayfrom open flame.
• Drainany largevolumeof fuel from thetank by disconnectingthe
fuel linefromthe in-linefuelfilter nearthe engine.
Gasolineis extremelyflammableandcan beexplosiveundercertain
conditions.Draingasolinebeforestoringthe equipmentfor extended
periods.Drainfuelonly intoan approvedcontaineroutdoors,away
fromanopenflame.Allow engineto cool.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipes,andothersourcesof ignitionpriorto drainingfuel.
Storegasolinein an approvedcontainerin safelocation.
• Reconnectthe fuel lineandrunthe engineuntil it startsto falter,
then usethe choketo keepthe enginerunninguntil allfuel inthe
carburetorhas beenexhausted.
• Againdisconnectthefuel lineanddrainany remaininggasoline
fromthe system.
3. Removethe spark plugandpourone(1)ounceof engineoil
throughthe sparkplugholeintothe cylinder.Crankthe engine
severaltimesto distributethe oil. Replacethe spark plug.

• Donot usea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto cleanyour unit.
Store mowerin a dry,cleanarea. Do notstorenextto corrosive
