You can set both the shutter speed and aperture manually as desired.
While referring to the exposure level indicator in the viewfinder, you can
set the exposure as desired. This method is called manual exposure.
*<a> stands for Manual.

Set the Mode Dial to <a>.

Set the ISO speed (p.158).

Set the shutter speed and aperture.
To set the shutter speed, turn the
<6> dial.
To set the aperture, turn the <

> dial.
If it cannot be set, set the <R>
switch downward, then turn the
<6> or <5> dial.

Focus on the subject.
Press the shutter button halfway.
The exposure setting will be
displayed in the viewfinder and on the
LCD panel.
Check the exposure level mark <
h
> to
see how far the current exposure level
is from the standard exposure level.

Set the exposure and take the picture.
Check the exposure level indicator and set the desired shutter
speed and aperture.
If the exposure level exceeds ±2 stops from the standard
exposure, the end of the exposure level indicator will display <
I>
or <
J> in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel. (On the LCD
monitor, if the exposure level exceeds ±3 stops, <
I> or <J> will
be displayed.)
