#1 Can the Instant Pot be used for canning?
Any pressure cooker can be used for canning even the fancy electric ones. The science is very basic. You know this is just a legal issue with instant pot right? Instant pots operate between 11and 13 psi on high correct?. Canning meat is from 10 to 15psi. It's all good. It's a pressure cooker.

#2 Does the lid come off?
Yes, the lid comes off. When placing the lid on the Instant Pot turn to the right until it drops down. Then turn to the left and it will lock in place. When you are ready to open the pot turn to the right and lift the lid off. A handy feature is that the lid can be propped in either handle for convenience.

#3 Can I make soup with this product? I mean for the soup that requires at least 3 hours of cooking.
Yes, I make soup in 12 mins. not including time for pot to gt to pressure and time for it to release, about an hour- hour and a half total. Best part, no standing over pot and whatever meat you use, comes out tender. Makes the best beef stew ever too. You won't be sorry...I love my Instant Pot!

#4 Why is there an option to purchase a pressure cooker or a pressure cooker with a cooking pot? Does the pressure cooker not have the pot inside?
The instant pot I have didn't have an option to purchase with or without a cooking pot. An instant pot would have no value if you didn't have a cooking pot.

#5 Can you cook meat in it like pork chop and shrimp? Not pressure cooking it though ..
You sure can! In addition to pressure cooking, you can saute or slow cook meats to get the exact results you want. Please visit our website for instructions and cooking tips.

#6 Didn’t see a power cord in the box to plug in, do you have to buy separately?
No, it should have been in the box in a bag by itself

#7 Can you use this for canning fruit or vegetables in jars?
No, a pressure cooker is not the same as a pressure canner. I am a certified master food preserver and if anyone tells you otherwise, they are wrong. Do not risk your health (life) and try to process food in jars in your Instant Pot or any other multipurpose appliance.

#8 Can it be used as a deep fryer?
Yes, but only if you get the optional glass lid. The pressure cooker lid will eventually gum up from the oil and explode, so you don't want to do that.

#9 I cannot get the timer to work? I set it but it does not time.
It counts down after it has reached pressure while pressure cooking, and counts up after it's done pressure cooking and is in keep warm mode. If you forgot which way the timer is going, there are also little symbols at the top of the screen : 'P' means
it is currently pressure cooking, a fire means it is getting up to pressure, and a thermometer means it is in keep warm mode.
While it is reaching pressure (fire symbol), there is no timer; that only kicks in once it's reached pressure. Also make sure your sound is on by clicking and holding the + button before you select any mode.

#10 How does the steaming function work? I don't see any basket.
For some items, like carrots, asparagus (long items), you can lay them across the included trivet. But I wouldn't and never have done that. You can buy a steamer basket. Just make sure it says it works in the 6 qt. Instant Pot. The one I bought came with a taller trivet with holes for cooking eggs. The increased height allows me to make soup or stew below and steam the veggies above. However, if you do this without interrupting the soup or stew cook to begin steaming the veggies, they will be overdone. I have found it's easier and faster to steam them in the microwave, or even on the stove.
