Philips S9985/84 Questions and Answers

#1 Is it normal for the "Drying" light on the cleaning station to be lit at all times?

The condition you report does not occur with my cleaning station. It does take several hours for the drying cycle to complete before the light goes out. If you were to remove and reinsert the AC before the dry cycle is finished, it would restart the cycle again. FYI After dry cycle is complete I remove AC until next cleaning is required

#2 I can no longer get the unit to self clean . I own the unit for less than a year, what is the problem with the unit ?

Every once in a while you need to clean the hole in the cleaning unit. I use a small round brush.

#3 Is smartclean plus system the model of the lower model 9300 without the ring around it?

Norelco apparently no longer manufactures the SmartClean station with "the ring." The newer stations either have induction heating or not, and corresponding icons for On/Off, Cleaning, Heating (or not), and Charging/Complete. There really was never a need for a "ring" to track progress, because, well, unless you were going to sit and stare at the shaver drying for 4 hours, it didn't have a function. The shaver actually runs a cleaning cycle for 5 minutes or so, then either goes straight to charging or enters a 4 hour drying cycle, depending on the station model, after which it charges. There's no entertainment value in watching it.
