#1 Does it cook brown rice? How long does it take?

Yes it will cook brown or white rice. I don't know how long, but I assume it takes about the same time as white rice; depending on how much you are cooking... Usually a full pot takes a little less than an hour...

#2 Is the power cord to this rice cooker hardwired? Or detachable?

The NYC-36 Commercial Rice Cooker and Warmer has an attached power cord.
