Philips MG5730/15 Questions and Answers

#1 Can I rinse my Philips Groomer with water?

You can rinse your Philips Groomer or Trimmer only if it is waterproof. You can check that by looking at the signs and symbols printed on your groomer's box or body.

Crossed-out tap symbol
If you see a crossed-out tap symbol on the box or body of your groomer, it means that the groomer is not washable and should be cleaned without water.
Tap symbol
A tap symbol printed on your grooming device indicates that it is washable and its parts (cutters and combs) can be cleaned with water. However, this does not mean that you can use it to clip or trim your hair in the shower or bath.
Bath or shower symbol
If you see a shower or bath symbol printed on your groomer, it means that your device is waterproof. It can be safely cleaned with water and used while taking a shower or a bath. For safety reasons, these waterproof groomers can only be used cordless and will not turn on if they are connected to the power supply.

Note: Please keep in mind that the symbols on your Philips Groomer vary per model type. If you are still unsure whether it is safe to clean your Philips Groomer with water then please contact us for further support.

#2 How do I charge my Philips Groomer?

Follow our instructions below on how to charge your Philips Groomers, Beard Trimmers and Hair Clippers.
Charging instructions for Philips Groomers
You should charge your Philips Male Grooming devices when the charging indicator on the body of your groomer signals low battery. If your device does not have a battery indicator on it, then charge it whenever the groomer is working slower than usual.
Insert the charging plug into your grooming device's charging socket. Make sure the plug's shape matches the socket and is completely inserted. Do not force it in.
The charging indicator on your device will start flashing to indicate that the groomer is charging. Once the groomer is fully charged, the charging indicator lights up continuously for approximately 30 minutes and then automatically turns off to save energy.
After charging, unplug the charger from the power socket and the groomer. Your groomer is now ready to use.
For most groomers, normal charging time is between 1 and 8 hours. If you are charging your device for the first time, we recommend letting it charge for at least 3 hours. Check your user manual for specific charging instructions for your model.

Charging your Philips Groomer with a charging stand
If your Philips Groomer comes with a charging station, follow the instructions below on how to charge it.
Connect the charging station to a working power socket.
Place your groomer in the charging stand. You may see a light on your groomer or charging stand to indicate that the charging process has begun.
Once the groomer is fully charged, unplug the charging stand and continue using your groomer.

Battery-operated devices
Some Philips grooming devices run on disposable AA batteries. To charge these devices, you need to ensure that the disposable batteries have not run out. If your trimmer does not switch on or runs slower than before, it is time to replace the batteries.
Only use the disposable batteries as specified in your user manual. Do not mix different types of batteries or new and used batteries. When putting in new batteries, make sure the + and - poles of the battery point in the right direction.

#3 How to cut my own hair with Philips Hair Clipper

Philips Hair Clippers are handy to be used yourself or by your partner to easily trim your hair.
Before use
Before cutting your hair, make sure you have all the right equipment. You will need a Philips Hair or a multipurpose product with hair clipping attachments, a mirror and a cape or towel to cover your neck and shoulders during trimming.

Also, keep hair products accessible for setting the hair and a vacuum cleaner for cleaning up afterwards.

Wet hair is trickier to trim as it tends to stick to your skin and can be missed by the device. Therefore, we advise clipping your hair when it is completely dry.

Comb your hair in the direction of your natural hair growth.

If you are cutting someone else's hair, make sure their head is at the same level as your chest. This ensures that all parts of the head are clearly visible and within easy reach.

Note: Beard trimmers are designed to trim beard hairs only. We do not recommend using them on other body parts such as your head. This is because you will not get the desired results, and it may also cause skin damage.
Instructions for use
1. Attach the desired comb to the clipper handle. If the attachments are not placed correctly, the groomer may not work or give the desired results.

2. Set the desired length setting. You can do this by turning the length-setting wheel or attaching the correct click-on comb. Start trimming at a high length setting to familiarise yourself with the device and reduce the length setting gradually until you have reached the desired hair length.

3. Switch on the device.

4. Move the appliance gently and steadily, with light pressure against the direction of hair growth. Make sure that the flat part of the comb always stays in contact with your skin to obtain an even result.

5. Do not press the groomer too hard against your scalp or skin, as you may accidentally change the settings and this can result in uneven trimming.

Use the trimmer without the trimming comb to trim hair close to the skin (0.5 mm) or to contour the neckline and sideburns. Be careful when you trim without a comb because the cutting unit removes every hair it touches.

6. Hair can collect in the hair chamber and the comb. Clean in between turns. Once done, switch off and clean the appliance. We advise to clean the device after each use.

Clipping children's hair
Philips has special hair clippers designed for kids. When using these, follow the same instructions as a clipper for an adult, but take care of some extra things.
For optimal safety, we advise you to always use the kids' hair clipper with a comb.
After cleaning the clipper, also apply a drop of oil on its cutting teeth.
