SAFETY INSTRUCTION
NEVER use an open flame (from a cigarette lighter
or candle, for example) to help search for gas leaks
in dark areas.

(2) “AA” Alkaline batteries and a wrist strap. A hard

INSTALL BATTERIES
1. Open the PNG2000A’s battery compartment by
unscrewing the black cap at the base of the
instrument (Fig. 1, Callout 7).

2. Insert the two supplied “AA” batteries into the
compartment anode (+ side) first.
3. Close the compartment by reinstalling and
tightening the black cap.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before turning on the detector, move to an area
where the air is clear of all combustible gases,
smoke, perfume, alcohol and volatile organic
compounds (VOCs). If you activate the unit where
any of these substances is present, the instrument
will automatically calibrate to a non-zero gas
concentration baseline. This will produce inaccurate
(and potentially dangerous) readings and foster a
false sense of security.
To activate the PNG2000A, move the power switch
(Fig. 1, Callout 5) to the ON position. The instrument
will immediately sound a brief, rapid sequence of five
tones and begin a 15-second warmup period. During
this period, the three front-panel LEDs will flash
rapidly and repeatedly in order from bottom to top.
The warmup period ends when the detector sounds
two loud descending tones. To signal that the
instrument is ready to detect gas, the green LED
flashes about once every 7 seconds, accompanied
by two muted ascending tones.

Change the batteries immediately upon hearing the
audible indication for Low Battery Charge in the
table. To avoid draining the batteries, reset the power
switch to OFF following each use.

normal wear and tear, or accidental damage. The
defective unit must be returned to General Tools &
Instruments or to a General-authorized service
center, freight prepaid and insured.
Acceptance of the exclusive repair and replacement
remedies described herein is a condition of the
contract for purchase of this product. In no event
shall General be liable for any incidental, special,

2. Insérez les deux piles « AA » fournies dans le
compartiment, côté de l’anode (borne positive)
en premier.
3. Remettez et revissez le capuchon noir pour fermer
le compartiment.
MODE D’EMPLOI
Avant d’allumer le détecteur, allez dans un endroit où
l’air est exempt de gaz combustible, de fumée, de
parfum, d’alcool et de composés organiques volatils
(COV). Lorsque vous activez l’instrument dans un
endroit où l’une de ces substances est présente, il
s’étalonne automatiquement à une valeur de
référence de concentration en gaz non nulle. En ce
cas, l’instrument fournira des lectures inexactes
(et potentiellement dangereuses), ce qui créera un
faux sentiment de sécurité.
Pour activer l’instrument PNG2000A, déplacez le
commutateur d’alimentation (Fig. 1, légende 5) à la
position de marche ON. L’instrument émettra
immédiatement une séquence rapide de cinq sons
et commencera une période de préchauffage de
15 secondes.

Au cours de cette période, les trois voyants à DEL du
panneau avant clignoteront rapidement, de bas en
haut, à plusieurs reprises.
Lorsque la période de préchauffage se termine,
l’instrument émet deux sons forts décroissants. Pour
indiquer que l’instrument est prêt à détecter la
présence de gaz, le voyant à DEL vert clignote à
intervalles d’environ sept secondes et l’instrument
émet deux sons croissants discrets.
Le tableau suivant explique la signification de toutes
les combinaisons possibles de signaux sonores et
visuels.

INSTRUCCIONES DE
OPERACIÓN
Antes de encender el detector, vaya a un área donde
el aire esté limpio y sin gases combustibles, humo,
perfume, alcohol y componentes orgánicos volátiles
(COVs). Si activa la unidad en un lugar con alguna de
esas sustancias, el instrumento se calibrará
automáticamente a un valor de referencia de gas
distinto a cero. Esto producirá lecturas imprecisas (y
potencialmente peligrosas) y brindará una falsa idea
de seguridad.
Para activar el PNG2000A, mueva la llave de
encendido (Figura 1, detalle 5) a la posición ON.
El instrumento emitirá inmediatamente una serie
rápida de cinco tonos y comenzará un período de
calentamiento de 15 segundos.
Durante este tiempo, los tres LEDs del panel frontal
parpadearán rápidamente varias veces desde arriba
hacia abajo.

El período de calentamiento termina cuando el
detector emite dos fuertes tonos descendentes. Para
indicar que el instrumento está listo para detectar
gas, el LED verde parpadea una vez cada 7 segundos,
junto con dos tonos bajos y ascendientes.
