Ecobee EB-STATE3-O2 Questions and Answers

#1 Does this use a cloud service to control? if so, what services are unavailable when the cloud is unreachable? Can it be controlled directly over wifi?

Yes, ecobee has a proprietary cloud service. When Wi-Fi is not available to the stat, you can only control it directly via the stat touchscreen.

#2 I've noticed with nest the temperature reading can be off by 5-10 degrees, is the ecobee the same?

It is pretty accurate for me. I bought 2 extra censors too so my whole house is within 2-3 degree from the warmest to the coldest.

#3 Do all Ecobee3 come with a wall/back plate to hide the marks left from the previous thermostat?

It comes with a basic white plastic backing but I found an unfinished wood backing on Amazon that I was able to paint to match wall color. Looks so much better.

#4 Can I use the motion sensors to control my home's lights?

No. The refresh rate of the sensors isn't fast enough to be effective for anything more than their intended purpose. In addition, you would have to get some creative hack to gain access to the sensor data.

#5 Does this integrate with Vivint Sky panel?

Currently works with Z-wave technology and Nest smart thermostat.

#6 Does the occupancy sensor detect pets? I'm guessing so, thus making the following feature and auto home away stuff invalid?

I have a cat that hangs out near the remote occupancy sensor all day. This hasn't caused any issues for me with the auto home/auto feature.
