3. BEFORE USE
3.1 Checking the machine
After removing the packaging, make sure the product is com-
plete and undamaged and that all accessories (C) are pres-
ent. Do not use the machine if it is visibly damaged. Contact
De’Longhi Customer Services.
3.2 Installing the machine
Important!
When you install the machine, you should respect the following
safety warnings:
• The machine gives o heat. After positioning the machine
on the worktop, leave a space of at least 1.18 in / 3 cm be-
tween the surfaces of the machine and the side and rear
walls and at least 5.9 in/15 above the coee maker.
• Water penetrating the coee machine could cause
damage.
Do not place the machine near taps or sinks.
• The machine could be damaged if the water it contains
freezes.
Do not install the machine in a room where the tempera-
ture could drop below freezing point.
• Arrange the power cord (A9) in such a way that it cannot be
damaged by sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces (e.g.
electric hot plates).
3.3 Connecting the machine
Important!
Check that the main power supply voltage corresponds to that
indicated on the rating plate on the bottom of the machine.
Connect the machine to an eciently earthed and correctly in-
stalled socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only.
If the power socket does not match the plug on the machine,
have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualied
professional.
3.4 Setting up the machine
Please note:
• Coee has been used to factory test the machine and it is
therefore completely normal for there to be traces of coee
in the grinder. The machine is, however, guaranteed to be
new.
• You should customise water hardness as soon as possible
following the instructions in section “19. Setting water
hardness”.
Proceed as described:
1. Plug the machine into the mains socket and press the main
switch (A6) on the back of the machine (g. 1).
2. The light (B3) ashes on the touch screen (B): Re-
move the water tank (A17 - g. 2), ll to the MAX line with
fresh water (g. 3A) then put back in the machine (g. 3B).
3. The icon (B14 - g. 5) ashes on the touch screen.
4. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 3.38 oz/100
ml under the frother (A20) (g. 4).
5. Turn the steam/hot water dial (A22) to the "I" position (g.
6) and press the OK icon (B15). Water is delivered
from the frother.
6. When delivery stops automatically, the icon ashes
on the touch screen to indicate that the steam dial must be
turned back to the "O" position.
The machine goes o.
To use it, press the
button (A23 - g. 7).
Please note:
• The rst time you use the machine, you need to make 4-5
cups of coee before it starts to give satisfactory results.
• To enjoy your coee even more and improve the perfor-
mance of your machine, we recommend installing a water
softener lter (C4) as described in section “20. Water sof-
tener lter”. If your model is not provided with a lter, you
can request one from De'Longhi Customer Services.
4. TURNING THE MACHINE ON
Please note:
Before turning the machine on, make sure the main switch (A6)
on the back of the machine is pressed (g. 1).
