WEP

ThesecuritymethodWEP(WiredEquivalentPrivacy)canbeusedtohelpsecureawirelessnetwork.However,WEPhassomeaws,

whichmakesitmorevulnerabletoattacksandWPA

-WPA-EnterpriseorWPA-/WPA2

–PSKabetterchoice.

TocongurethewirelesssettingsusingtheWEPsecuritymethod:

1.Selectthenetworktypebeingusedbytheaccesspoint,MasterorAd-Hoc.

2.SelecttheAuthenticationtype,OpenorSharedKeydependingonthemethodusedbytheaccesspoint.Notallaccess

pointshavethisoption,inwhichcasetheyprobablyuseopensystem,alsosometimescalledSSIDAuthentication.

3.SelecttheKeylength,64bitor128bitusedforthewirelessencryption.

4.SelecttheKeytype,dependingonthekeytypeusedbytheaccesspointandenterthekeyinthecorrespondingkeyelds.

Manualallowsyoutomanuallyenterthehexkey.ASCIIrequiresthestringtobeexactlyvecharactersfor64–bitWEP

and13charactersfor128–bitWEP.ThePassphrasecancontainupto31characters.In64–bitWEPthepassphrase

generatesfourdifferentkeys.For128–bitWEP,onlyonekeyisgenerated,whichthenisreplicatedforallfourkeys.

TheActivetransmitkeyselectswhichofthefourkeystheAxisproductuseswhentransmittinginformation.

TheNosecurityoptionprovidesnoprotectionagainstattacks.Itisnotarecommendedmethodandshouldonlybeusedduring

shortperiodsandexceptionalcases.

Wirelessnetworkcerticatesareusedtoauthenticatedevicesonawirelessnetwork.Wirelessnetworksusingthe

WPA

-/WPA-EnterprisesecuritymethodareprotectedbyEAPOL(ExtensibleAuthenticationProtocolOverLan),whichispartofthe

IEEE802.1Xstandard.TheclientandserverauthenticateeachotherusingdigitalcerticatesprovidedbyaCerticateAuthority.To

gainaccesstotheprotectedwirelessnetwork,theAxisproductpresentsitscerticatetothenetworkswitch.Ifthecerticateis

approved,theswitchallowsaccess.

Youmayneedtocontactyournetworkadministratorforinformationoncerticates,userIDsandpasswords

CAcerticate-CreatedbytheCerticationAuthorityforthepurposeofvalidatingitselfandisusedbytheAxisproductfor

checkingtheserver’sidentity.

Clientcerticate/Clientprivatekey-UsedfortheAxisproducttoauthenticateitselfusingaclientcerticateandaprivatekey.
